I have only been there with a return ticket and now that the kids are older (7 and 8) I wouldn't go for ever. My dh has family in Pakistan and has had a job offered there but I value my freedom and over there (Karachi) I would be confined to my home most of the time, it isn't the sort of country where you can decide to just go for a walk. When not at home it would be doing therounds of relatives and then sittingin rooms with the women, it drove me crazy. If you are going as one of the rich top 1% of the country you might be OK but dh is from quite a wealthy family with big houses and gurads, drivers, maids etc but I felt like I was in prison.
On a positive note, everyone was really nice and welcomed us - in thefamily. On the street I didn't feel very comfortable, would reccomend getting thetraditional shalvar kammeez dress and head scarf to go out in.

Where were you thinking of going? I suppose it would also depend on the reason you are going, if it would be some sort international company, diplomatic or whatever professional reason it could be OK.
If I went dh would be at the university as assistant professor and we would have to live in his sisters house, at first anyway, and later only option would be on the campus but I've been there and seen it and I wouldn't cope with the isolation on the campus and I would hate to live with his sister.
