Midwife moving to US?

i'm living in the UK and i hopefully will be starting midwifery dipolma course in sep 07. i'm american and will want to move back to the US in the next 5-10 years.

is anyone in a similiar situation? the US midwife qualifications are so much more complicated!!! helpf!!!

my cousin is a midwife in the midwest. When she started midwives weren't as popular over there, but more so now.

She started life as a neonatal nurse. What do you want to know?

in the UK there's really only one way to become a midwife- direct entry- three year course.

in the US- most are nurses first and then midwives second...

if i trained in the UK and then moved to the US- i would need to go back to school to be a nurse in order to practice. i don't know how feasible this is....

When i was training i had a friend who came over from canada to train here, we both did th 3 year diploma. When she had finished she went back to work as an independant midwife, she had to take a massive exam to get her qualifications converted but said it was fine. Not sure how similar it is to the states, hope it helps. Im usually on the due in may the sequel thread if you have any more questions.

My cousin has her own practice. Just hired two new ones, so she has 5 other midwives working for her now. I have just emailed her about if you need pass the test or need more qualifications. I think most are nurses first, because most don't think of midwifery first.
