French school CM1 or CM2 for 2004 year of birth?

Contemplating a move and have a quick question.

I think it would be CM2 but could someone confirm please for a December 2004 DOB, so age 9 now but turning 10 in December?

If so, this would be like jumping from present Y5 in UK into Y6 and also being the youngest in the class.

How common is it to hold back very young ones and especially non-french speakers?

2004 is CM2 = year 6 in UK.

It is very common to repeat the year here in France. They will probably put her in CM2 and get her to redouble if you/the school think it necessary.

Yes, 2004 = CM2. Agree with the above - they don't tend to hold children back for being the youngest, they would just make them repeat the year if they thought it necessary. Straight into CM2 without much French would be tricky - by this stage they have reasonably complicated geography, history and science to deal with as well as french and maths.

Just heard back from a friend who has made enquiries at the school in question and they have said CM1 so the plot thickens???

Maybe the Head is thinking it best to drop a year from the outset, also it appears there are other anglophones in that class, or perhaps it is a combined CM1/2 class??

I need to go out and see and ask. The move is probably temporary.
