Moving abroad when we don't speak the language plus where to job search

I used to live abroad and returned to the UK years ago, however Im struggling with the UK culture.

I would love to live Europe, but dh only speaks English. He says he has no chance of earning enough for us to live off. I can't earn enough to support us either. I do speak a language fluently (don't want to out myself though) .

Has anyone any ideas re finding a job abroad? How did others on here find work abroad?

If neither of you can earn enough for you both to live off and only one of you can communicate (and it seems only one of you really wants to give it a shot) it's a bit of a moot point, isn't it? Employment wise, most of Europe is looking pretty grim at the moment too.

I moved to a country for 18 months where I couldn't speak the language (Azeri) but dh was able to support both of us and I lectured in English so it's not impossible, but we moved there with dh's team so automatically had a social circle that didn't depend on language, plus we had a local 'fixer' to call to help us with various day to day issues.

I don't know what the possibilities of teaching English are nowadays, but it used to be a very good way of working abroad, at least until you learn the language.

You would have to take a course though.

I second Springtime. Teaching English might be a possibility. Do you have a degre?

What about working as a nanny? Especially if you speak English.

We live abroad (European country) and my husband only speaks English and supports us with his job. In fact quite a few of our expat circle don't speak the local language. Some ended up here through internal transfers by their employer based in the UK, some applied to the specific job. It probably depends on your profession and also the country (I can't imagine many English speaking jobs in France or Spain for example, Northern Europe is a bit more likely IME)
