What's the most you have paid for a beer?

I live in Oman, I know booze will be expensive and normally avoid the International Hotels.

However, I did go into one recently and ordered a draught beer, they weren't working, so I looked at the bottles available and chose a Grolsh (More than 1/2 pint, less than 1 pint)

I drank it and had another, then asked for the bill...

It was nearly £16!

More fool me, I know.

But what is the most you have paid (wittingly or unwittingly)

Not as much as you but the equivalent of £20 for 2 half litres of beer in Norway.
We only had one drink that day!

"We only had one drink that day!"

I would have imagined that drink/drive offences would be quite low.

But they ain't

Not quite the same but a dear friend and I who both live in Dubai were discussing the merits of the bargain bottle of wine for 220dhs (gbp 36) when we did actually convert thConfused cost and say omg you could get this in sainsburys for gbp 7. But thems the breaks.

Was going to say how about trying the cheap Sauvignon?

12 quid for a half pint at one of the rooftop bars in Singapore.

I've stopped drinking wine and know off by heart where the happy hours take place and when.

Routinely pay Gbp 7-8 here in China for 500ml German beer.
You can, however, buy a bottle of Qing ado brewed beer for about 25 pence in the supermarket.

ShanghaiDiva · 04/09/2014 06:25

Should read Qing Dao!
Paid about 8 quid for a beer in Oslo over 10 years ago.

Pointlessfan · 04/09/2014 06:39

8 quid for a beer in Oslo. It's so expensive there that when we found a pub selling beers for £6 it seemed cheap!
Also paid around $15 for a cocktail in the States but it was worth every penny! (or cent!)

Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore - one beer = $30 / GBP15!!!

I think I may need to add, in defence of Oman's booze prices, that £16 would buy me a case of 24 x 500ml Tuborg in the 'off licence', that seems quite reasonable to me.

Is it any wonder I rarely visit the International Hotel Bars?

Just back from a last day of the weekend happy hour (or two). Bottle of Sauvignon blanc (quite nice) 125dhs aka just over 20 gbp!!!! wtf I did think it was a great bargain (and it is) until I converted it. But yep it's still a great bargain in this land.
