110v appliances to UK (230/240v) ?

Hello Mums

Anyone relocated or returned to the UK with 110v appliances (eg from US, Canada)?

When we moved from UK to 110v country some items didn't work even with a transformer so want to avoid shipping something if it is not going to work at the other end when we return to the UK.

Phones, ipads are OK as we use those with a converter plug when we visit. I am thinking more of blender, kitchen aid mixer, coffee machine, lamps, hair dryer. Not big appliances (fridge, TV as will be leaving those behind).

Anyone have any experience/advice to share?

Thanks

I dumped everything that was 110v only - I wasn't sorry to see most of it go (Black and Decker food processor particularly - thing was ridiculous) - plus for a lot of it, the cost of shipping wasn't worth it when I looked at what I could sell it for on craigslist, then buy again in the UK (sewing machine for example). I had a little colour coded spreadsheet to help me figure it all out.

Check the hairdryer, mine had a little dial that let it switch between voltages (as did another hair thing)

We did it the other way from Singapore to US (240V to 120V). We dumped everything and replaced except for Mac computer, ipads, camera chargers, GHDs, xbox and Kitchen Aid. It was all dual voltage (check the label) except for Kitchen Aid and xbox and we use transformers for those - you can get them for $20-30 on Amazon.

if it is 110V only, not dual voltage, you'll have the use of it for only a few milliseconds if you plug it into the UK mains. Don't bother.

plenty of cheap as chips stuff here either new or second hand.

thanks for the replies - none of my stuff is dual so going to sell/give before we leave and get new when we arrive. Just wanted to check I wasn't being overly decadent and wasteful in not shipping. Will be sad to say goodbye to my Kitchen Aid mixer - anyone in the Cayman Islands give me a shout
