I'm due in Jan 2015, looking at being posted to RAF Akrotiri in August next year.
Just wanting to know about work for mums out there if anyone knows?

Hi, I'm an expat in Cyprus but a different part of the island and no connection to the forces. Although I do live inbetween 2 of the other bases.

However, I know that there are more opportunities for forces dependants it's just a case of finding them. The jobspot on bfbs radio is very good. You could see if you could get that now or join their fb page as well as the local ones. Or, I don't know if you could preemptively send your cv to the schools or to the cessac.

Also check Angloinfo and the local parenting websites. Let me know if there's anything else I can help with.

I suspect that as bub is only 7 months and you have the raf support of housing, welfare, families clubs that work may be less of an Issue than looking after the baby? Just a thought. Enjoy time on an overseas posting with your family and other wives and kids ??

I understand that it is far easier to find work as a dependent now in Cyprus than during my time there, late 90's. it's a lovely place, enjoy it.

Urr no not being judgemental! I went back to work when all my bubs were 6 months. I'm a nurse and to maintain registration i need recency of practice! I am also an army child and know how great and amazing the forces are at supporting families. Totally different to any other expat moves! There are far more sahm's in the forces as the support / conditions are better than for the civilian work force. Hence .. I'd suggest that rather than try and find childcare and a job whilst on a posting, enjoy the new experience of being a mum, enjoy the support of the forces, get involved in stuff on camp. If op is desperate to work then go for it!

I like to plan ahead and know what I'm in for. Since it's my first baby, my plans will probably not work out the way I thought anyway, however my husband and I don't have pots of money, so I thought working part time may help.

I would love to work within the RAF base as a civi due to my interest in the airforce, however my trade is beauty, so I may have to venture down that route reluctantly.

you are lucky that Limmasol is a city with lots of expats and foreign people- the most multicultural city in the island I believe in general- so I think language and fitting in won't be a problem. Not to mention my favorite beach in the island that's right outside the base

I undertand from what I hear that Akrotiri has its own support network as well but cant help on that. Your work field in beauty should also be usefull since the demand in Limmasol is high both in terms of beauticians as well as with shop beauty sellers.
