How much did it cost to emigrate to Australia?

Hello, we are on the brink of making a final decision about moving to Australia. We wanted to know how much it cost you to go, from PR Visa to setting up home and everything in between.
It would just be myself, DH and son. DH would work full time, i would not work initially but would eventually get a PT job so no immediate childcare costs.

We only shipped over a few boxes and bought everything when we go here, so spent around $15,000 (Australian) on furniture.

You're looking at around $5,000 (Australian) for a reliable secondhand car and if you're renting you'll need 4 x weeks rent as a deposit as well as 2 x weeks rent up front. A lot of places would rather you offer 6 x months rent up front in addition to the deposit if you don't have a job to go to.

We've been here almost 5 years and it cost us around $30,000 (Australian) including flights from Birmingham - Sydney but excluding visas.

I came across as a nurse with dh and 2dc. We shipped at a cost of £6500, paid £1000 for medicals another £4000 for our visa, skills assessment and various other nurse/ medical stuff £1000. Then flights, short term holiday rental , bought 2x cars as public transport dire in WA and all the bits and bobs we needed before our container arrived.

Then all the things like medical insurance, new drivers licence etc, we round it up to around £30 000.

Sad to say we are on our way back as we just can't afford to stay in WA.

That was 2 years ago from Scotland.

Giggly that's a shame! Are you ready to return home though? We live in London and are saving for our move back to Australia. I can't believe that I'm saying that either...

Possum poo, can I ask why you returned to the uk and want to go back out?

We didn't ship much, and only paid £1800 for visas, so we did it on under £20k including three months rent. A friend of mine was lucky enough to have family to stay with, she emigrated on less than 10k.

It isn't cheap!
Remember that rental places are unfurnished. So you have to buy furniture. You can do this cheaply many ways. Lifeline stores, gumtree etc. we bought most things from amart but I wish we had had more time and been smarter!
You don't need private health if your a uk citizen, until your a pr and then you have 6 months. Or age loading applies.
Find a job first. That's the biggest hurdle.
Pets cost a fortune to bring over.
Cars id budget 10k. Maybe that's state variable? New they are about 20k upward for a smaller car. I wouldn't pay much less than 10 and get a newer car. Big kms to drive in aus! Good public transport in cities too tho.

Possum pool I am more resigned that we need to go back, I would have happily stayed another 6 months but we are just eating into our savings every month and tbh I just want to buy another house and feel settled again.

Events seem to be confirming this as well. I was ill and needed to go into hospital and we had no one to mind the kids overnight so dh could take me, also my old job has just come back up along with a house for rent next door to my parents

We will return for holidays though.
