A small gecko just shot out of my plug hole and now seems trapped.

I was washing up and emptied half a cup of tea down the sink and got a real shock when this small (3") gecko jumped out.

But it now seems trapped in there as the walls to the sink are too steep to climb.

I know that if it were a spider in a bath, you can put a towel down.

Same thing for a gecko? Is it ok to come out when I am not looking and wander about my clean washing up?

Got a wooden spoon that'll reach? I expect a towel would work too, or you could catch him in a tub.

Fortunately a paper towel did the trick.

I love having gecko(e)s around the house, but I have a DD who freaks out at the sight of them in much the same way as an spider-phobic person would (DD fine with taking spiders out of the house)

No hygiene issues then?

I think there is a risk of salmonella so better to wash carefully. My cats love them too unfortunately for them.

I don't mind them around either. We have one who lives above the ac unit in the sitting room. He shrieks at us in the evening when we are still up and it is late. He likes to run between the pictures on the walls when he thinks we're not watching.

Bloody thing is back again this morning!

I am trying really hard not to give it a name, because I know if I do I shall worry when I do not see it for a few days.

(Just asking, what would be a good name for a gecko whose gender is unknown? )

As its living in the plumbing I'm pretty sure you should call it Mario.

Our geckos are called Gordon, Gordon's mate, Gordon's mum, Gordon's mates mate etc ad infinitum. Named by ds years ago.

I loved having geckos. They ate the cockroaches (which are a health hazard).

These ones are quite small, I'm not sure they could manage a cockroach, but then I haven't seen any cockroaches in a long time.

In Nigeria the geckoes were quite big, and I swear they used to make a noise that sounded like 'geck'.

Gordon is a good name, but I think I am going to opt for Gengis for alliteration purposes. Haven't seen him for a day or so, so I am worrying.

Gosh our geckos aren't large enough to eat the cockroaches sadly.

I once saw a gecko chase a cockroach in Manila! I cheered it on!

As far as I can concern, Gengis now creeps about my eldest DD's school bag.

It's true, Gengis does seem to like to sit around DD! school bag...

We have Geckos everywhere. They pop out of books, in the washing, everywhere. We love them. We also have blue tongue lizards which you would not want in the house lol!

I am so jealous! Used to love watching geckos climb the walls when I lived abroad briefly many years ago. If I ever got a tattoo, it would be a gecko.

I might call one Galileo. Or something dinosaurean?

My DDs would come over all squealy with delight if geckos starting appearing in their school bags. We haven't had any inside in this house yet, but plenty on the outside walls.

Saw a bright Green beetle once, like a huge emerald.

We have lots of geckos in the house too.

My Dd likes to catch the small ones and put them in her Sylvanian families house to play.

When teaching in Nigeria (a long time ago) I remember waking up late and rushing to put my clothes on.

I shuffled about a bit as I felt uncomfortable.

I then took my trousers down to find out what was going on

I then saw a large lizard in the crotch of my trousers.

Rather than gently reaching down and encouraging this lizard to go elsewhere, I chose to shoot about the room with my trousers round my ankles and shout loudly.
