Moving to Perth

Hi,

We are moving to Perth later this year and have places for our daughters at MLC. I called literally every private school and it was the only one that could offer us two places straight away.

We have been looking at where to live and for my husband's commute Stirling seems like a good area and has nice homes within our budget.

However, we are worried about the school commute as we have had varying feedback on how long it would take (by car) from no problem to it is too much to even consider...

Any info/advice??

Thanks

Hi, I am from Perth. MLC is an excellent school. I have my daughter on the wait list for grade five. She is only one though! Stirling is quite far north. Why have you chosen there? I would stay western suburbs if your budget can afford it. MLC is in Claremont so I would suggest living in Claremont, Nedlands, Subiaco, Shenton Park or Cottesloe. Even Wembley maybe, although that's further North. The drive from Stirling to the city will be on the freeway north with terrible traffic in the morning, although it's not a particularly long distance. It's a long drive to MLC although I guess there may be a bus if your kids are old enough. It depends on your budget per week for rent?

Happy to answer any questions you have.

Good luck! Perth is a fantastic place, I am sure you will enjoy it.

Oh and from Stirling to Claremont in morning traffic I would have thought would be looking at at least 30 minutes. It's not an easy drive really. Floreat is another area to consider which may be a better drive to Claremont.

Hi Emmy,

Thanks for your reply.

We have chosen Stirling as it suits my husband's work commute and we like the look of the houses there. I don't work so we thought a half hour-45 min commute is not really that bad....have done much worse in other places:-) St Mary's would have been fantastic but they had nothing available.

We are actually from Australia but have never been to Perth and have been living in Asia for the last 10 years.

We have already payed the deposit for MLC so no going back on that one now!

Any other advice greatly appreciated, I am a bit worried at the prospect of trying to find my way around and make friends without the "expat" routine:-)

Thanks!
