Sunday lunch.

Ok so obv you eat lunch abroad. ;) but is there the fetishisation of the roast?
I lived in Germany and can't remember it apart from the afternoon formal Kaffee und Kuchen with a sedate walk

We don't do Sunday lunch at all. Between the kids activities, homework, DIY, dog walking, gardening etc we normally manage a soup, salad or sandwich. We do go out for dinner most Sundays with the kids though, around 6pm, and choose a different restaurant each time. Tonight it's catfish and crawfish at a Texas BBQ restaurant. It's a nice way to round off the weekend.

But is the principle of Sunday meals entrenched in your country?

To be honest I don't think so. We're in Texas, people tend to BBQ at the weekends when the weather is good but it could be Saturday as much as Sunday.

About once a month I will do a roast dinner on a Sunday afternoon. Normally it's an opportunity to ask some British expat friends to join us and then it is worth dirtying all the pans!

It is usually chicken or pork whereas in the UK it was always lamb or beef. I now make a mean homemade stuffing with leftover bread.

I love the jars of precooked rhubarb and gooseberries you can buy here, so I normally throw a crumble together which we eat in the evening.

It does feel nice to get together around the table and I do it more for DS to keep some Uk traditions.

I didn't make one every Sunday at home, but it was nice to have the choice of a pub lunch when you were feeling hungover lazy.

We're in California. I have one maybe twice a month, roast chicken, Yorkshire puddings, the lot. But there's nothing particularly special, most people will have a nicer or fancier meal on the weekend, but that's because of time I think, and not a specific meal or anything.
