melbournemum · 23/08/2006 00:19

hi all

just introducing (or re-introducing) myself as I'm fairly new to mumsnet and have recently moved to Melbourne with my ds1 (3) and ds2 (14 months) and dh after 6 years in London. We live in the Bayside area and I was just wondering how many Melbourne Mumsnetters are out there...

I don't live in Melbourne - but I am coming in January.

PeppaPigsMum · 23/08/2006 12:40

hi melbournemum. sorry, i'm not in Melbourne any more either - recently moved from there to Sydney and am missing it (although starting to get to know my way about here now). whereabouts are you - we lived in Middle Park and absolutely loved it. Melbourne is a fab place !

we came over from London as well last November - have to say the weather is an improvement over here .

HI there MelbourneMum

I'm no help to you as I just left melbourne
to move to london.....
We loved Melbourne (were only there 15mths) and will definetly think about moving back there when finished here.
Where are you living??? We were in Point Cook, very nice and lots of Mums!
Good luck, hope you enjoy it.

hi again melbournemum. just wondered if you'd visited either of these playgrounds. they are very community orientated and i got the impression that if you visited regularly you'd get to know people pretty easily. i used to go to the st kilda one and they've got tea & coffee making facilities there too (there's a donation box so they can replace supplies).

of course please ignore if you already know about them or just don't need the info .

melbournemum · 02/09/2006 10:29

thanks PeppaPigsMum, I didn't know about those playgrounds so will definitely try the St Kilda one as its only 15 mins from us.

i always wished i was a kid and could run around playing when i visited. had to restrain myself and encourage dd to investigate everywhere with my help of course . a shame she was too little for the flying fox . have a fab time when you go!

how is Melbourne at the moment? we've just got back from holiday in Noosa with friends we made in Melbourne, and its made me 'homesick' for the place...

tangox3 · 10/09/2006 21:52

Hiya. I've just moved here too with dh, ds (2) and one in oven due early Nov, having lived in the northern hemisphere for a few years. Come from NZ originally. Am living in Camberwell. Let me know if you fancy meeting up for a coffee sometime. We have friends that live in Port Melbourne and it's only a 15 min drive from here. Tanya

melbournemum · 15/09/2006 01:27

Hi Tanya
I'd love to meet for a coffee and a play. Do you have any set things you do each day? We are pretty flexible..I'm not too sure where Camberwell is but I've heard its lovely, am happy to meet anywhere really....
Peppapigsmummy its gorgeous here today, its been funny weather, gorgeous one week, rainy and cold the next but thats Melbourne. Am really starting to feel settled and enjoying it so much more now.

Hi again MM ... we met on another thread ... I think I was 'poopy' then but I went back to my old MN name
We are shifting to Melbourne in the New Year (having been in NZ for 5 years by then) ... DH is already there, working in Kew, renting a flat in Richmond (ha ha at London names )
I am bringing the children over to see him for 10 days in the next school holidays (will be in Melb from 29th Sept to 8th October) and I would LOVE to meet someone for coffee if you and Tango are up for it ...?

Tango, where if NZ are you from? I loved the look of Camberwell when we visited Melb in May ... how do you find it?

melbournemum · 15/09/2006 08:40

Hi Ghosty

Definitely love to meet up when you are in town. I'm away from 6th to 8th October (Child-free weekend with 2 girlfriends in Brisbane - oh my goodness what bliss!!) but free to meet up any other time.

Hi mm ...
Why don't you email me on ghostyandmeg(at)xtra(dot)co(dot)nz ?
I put in the (at) and the (dot)s so as not to put my addy on the net IYSWIM - get enough spam daily to sell me Viagra as it is

Then we can make a plan for that week. DH will be working so I will be really keen to get out and about with the children - coffee and a play would be fab

tangox3 · 17/09/2006 11:43

Hi melbournemum. Nothing fixed as yet and would love to meet up for coffee. Shall we make a plan to meet next week sometime? i can drive to Port Melbourne if you like. There must be a playground there we could take the kids and coffee to rather than letting my larrikin destroy the cafe!

melbournemum · 21/09/2006 12:17

Hi Tanya

coffee and play sounds great. Don't worry, my boys have a limited cafe tolerance too. Next week is good for us too. I'll have a look in the Melways to see if I can figure out where might be easy for us both. There is a really nice cafe with park/playground/beach across the road in North Road, Brighton, thats about 15 minutes from me in Sandringham but I don't know how that would be for you. I'll have a look. Thursday morning is good or any afternoon for us...
