Anyone else experiencing Snowmagedon?

I'm in SE Michigan. We have a few feet of snow here and it is still coming down. Temps are below zero.

I know there are other people in the area, so are you all OK? No broken furnaces or other disasters?

Btw, there is a town called Hell near us, so Hell has frozen over. Smile

Yes - just across the lake from you. I have never experienced cold quite like it. We have dogs so they still have to be walked. It is just the strangest feeling and takes so much energy to keep going!

kickassangel · 07/01/2014 00:40

And by the weekend it will all be melting! We've been here 5 years so kin of used to it, but this is unusual.

It is so bloody cold here in NJ. Our gas bill is going to be through the roof as the heat as been on all the time. We had a storm on Friday last week and the air pressure dropped quickly. Poor DS lost a couple of lbs of poo and DD was running around screaming for five minutes because of her ears. Thank goodness it was before I left for work. We have never had the air pressure drop like that before.

OMG I am leaving the office now and I am going to put something up the chimney when I get home. The wind was so high yesterday that you could feel a breeze in the front room. All the doors and windows were shut!

goinggreyagain · 09/01/2014 02:37

We are in NJ as well, Monday morning 8am it was 55degs and raining and by that night it was 4deg ! This cold is insane....

popsnsqeeze · 09/01/2014 02:42

I'm in PA. My first winter here. It's insane, the cold goes right through me. And I have a proper winter coat for the first time ever!

goinggreyagain · 09/01/2014 02:57

Please tell me you didn't move from somewhere lovely and warm to PA ?

sykadelic15 · 09/01/2014 03:13

It was -46C with windchill in Iowa on Monday!!

popsnsqeeze · 09/01/2014 03:26

I moved from somewhere mostly lovely and warm to PA. I'm nuts.
DH was offered a great job here so we made the move.

popsnsqeeze · 09/01/2014 03:27

I'm from London, lived in the ME
for the last 10 years, and now here.

kickassangel · 09/01/2014 04:04

Finally back to school tomorrow after 3 snow days!

Then it should be plus 46 F this weekend!

We've been here 5 years and I still don't get used to how dramatically the weather changes

pop If you don't have a full length north face puffer coat (DH calls it the walking duvet) you need to get one. They had them on nordstrom. I had mine shipped to the house.

popsnsqeeze · 12/01/2014 15:08

I have a waist length north face! I think it was one of my first purchases here!

Want2bSupermum · 13/01/2014 04:09

Waist length doesn't cut it for me! All you see is about an inch of my eyes. I hate being cold.

kickassangel · 13/01/2014 12:20

The first year we were here I didn't have a proper coat. I stood at the bus stop with blankets wrapped over me and the inside of my nostrils freezing. Now I would drive there and keep the engine running, it's about 100 yards away.

Anyone experiencing Round 2 of the polar vortex.

Schools here are closed today and tomorrow. No idea why as I am sure it has been just as cold in previous years . I am so annoyed as it has thrown out my entire work schedule.

butterfliesinmytummy · 28/01/2014 02:46

Houston Texas checking in..... Ice day tomorrow, might hit -2 and little chance of snow but there'll be ice so roads, schools and offices are closed, same as last Friday. Teachers are sending through work by email and everyone back in the uk is wondering what the hell is going on. Texas just doesn't do ice....

SecretWitch · 28/01/2014 02:56

Living in Massachusetts. Was thrilled when temp went up to 20 degrees. We will be hovering at 0 and below for the next few days. So difficult trying to coax children out of nice warm beds to go out into -2 wait for bus. Heating costs going through roof.

CordeliaChase · 28/01/2014 03:54

Up in Saskatchewan, we've not had as much snow as we did last year. Wind chill warnings are in effect tonight though, -47. Yuck. Roll on spring!

kickassangel · 28/01/2014 04:00

About to have our 6th snow day since term made a slow cold start. The colleges are all shut as well. I am forcing dd to do 2 hours if work each day which is not popular.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 28/01/2014 04:09

Not as much snow this winter in Northern Alberta but it's been a cold one. Weeks and weeks of -30. Lower with the wind chill. Schools never close here.

Salbertina · 28/01/2014 08:08

Definitely not, high summer! Enjoy the snow

BrennanHasAMangina · 28/01/2014 16:12

Ugh. We've got snow and ice and a temperature of minus 31 with the windchill today( in Toronto). It's like the Overlook Hotel. Just managed a 10 min dog walk and was afraid I was actually going to perish. It's been non-stop garbage-weather this winter and on days like today I actually wonder why anyone sensible would actually want to live here. Interestingly, we are in the midst of packing up to move to the desert so in a few months I'll be on here grizzling about the extreme heat Grin.
