Hi all. My sister has moved to KL and I really miss just being able to chat I'm the phone. Skype is ok but feels all a bit pre arranged. So my question is what is the cheapest way for me to call her. I am in UK.

Your mobile or land line phone operator might offer a deal - O2 does good ones and I think you can get good ones through others too.

Otherwise but a calling card. I buy one via text that then gets added to my phone bill and I calla local number so that part is free on my minutes. I use one called just-dial. It looks like kl is 1p a minute so your £5 would last a longtime.

I'm in KL and speak to my sister on Viber, it's OK but we get cut off from time to time (don't know if the problem is my end or hers)

We skype most of the time.

That's the great thing about just dial - you buy it by texting them from your mobile and it gets added to your mobile phone bill and then you just use your mobile to make the calls. Check out their website. You can buy physical calling cards from most off licenses too but I don't like those.

I think it's www.just-dial.com

hi - I use Nimbuzz.com. I put on some credit onto my account - a little to begin with in case it had been a scam. I also downloaded their app onto my computer and my smartphone so I can have it whilst on the move, and then its just just like skype only cheaper. I can call to any landlines and mobiles and the call quality has been superb on 90% of my calls.

They do have an annoying habit of advertising a certain call rate, but then charge VAT on top, so don't forget to take the VAT into account. I topped up with 10 pounds, but then they charged the VAT on top, and the same applies to the call rate per minute. They do advertise that they give some credit for people referring others, but I think that's a con, because it hasn't worked for me.

I've used it a lot now and its the best one I've come across. Like you, Skype for me doesn't give me the freedom I need, and the Skypeout rates are a bit expensive. Good luck.
