How to find car insurance for longer than 90 days in EU advice needed please.

My dn wants to drive his van down to Italy, he has work in various boatyards and is taking his van, tools etc. He has accommodation and hopes to be based there for 6 months plus.

The problem we have hit is that the insurance companies don't cover for longer than 90 days in the EU.

Dn reckons it's nigh on impossible to obtain Italian insurance but this must happen all the time, surely?

Has anyone got any inspiration or experience, would be so grateful, am losing days to google.

Try a small independent insurance broker, I have found them far more knowledgeable/helpful than the big ones that do all the advertising.

Maybe go down there on the 90 days insurance and then while there, find Italian insurance to cover him for work/leisure. There may be regulations that require him to register the car over there or something if its in the country longer than a certain period.

Thank you flibbertyjibbet that's useful advice on brokers. I'll look into Italian regulations.

Also look at the regulations about how long a vehicle can be out of the UK before you have to re-register it elsewhere. I'm not sure how long it is but it may be linked to the 90 day thing.

Stuart Collins.

Stuart Collins no good as dn under 30.
As far as I understand it 6 months is the max time allowed on UK plates. Think he'll just have to come back after 90 days.
