Join BCT. There are over 1200 members and loads of groups. Once your eldest gets to school age, ie 2 1/2, if you choose the right school, you can make friends that way too.

Yes there are dozens of them, run by BCT!

You get drop-in centres in French and Dutch too, on this map, marked with blue pins.

Hello joyanos, welcome to Brussels! We have a facebook page for mumsnetters in the Benelux. If you're on facebook and would like to join, send me a private message on here. It's a secret group so no-one else can see us or what we write (in theory!). We share lots of information and also meet up.

Just let me know if you're interested.

Oh and I second runningmad's suggestion of joining the BCT. It's how I made all my English speaking friends.

joyanos · 07/09/2013 16:38

There are for all of them. There are 2 BCT rooms, one in Ixelles and the other in Wezembeek-Oppem. BCT also runs other groups held in other people's homes. You have to join BCT to have access to the groups at their 2 rooms and the timetable for the groups held in private homes.

The French and Dutch groups you don't need membership for, you just turn up at the advertised opening times which should be included on the links to the blue pins.

Welcome to Bxls!

Fwiw ... I didn't really feel "rooted" in Bxls until my dd started school. Then I met loads of friends (some of her friends' parents) and doing the school run/a bit of volunteering. So, if you are staying for a while, don't worry, things will definitely get better! (I know how isolating being with small los all day can be though).

And ... if you are intending to stay for a long time, do get enrolled in some language courses. I know it's stating the obvious, but friendships depend on speaking the same language and they'll give you lots more opportunities to make friends with interesting people.
