anyone in spain?

hi,

i am asking a question on behalf of my mum who is going to be spending a few months in spain with my aunty who lives there. she wants to know whether the locals tip in spain (she likes to doas the locals do and not the tourists) so hopefully someone can help me.

oops not quite sure why i wrote spain, i meant portugal. - must be cos im excited about our holiday to spain in the summer. better repost!!

on the spain topic can anyone tell me if chip and pin is compulsory in spain like it has been in the UK since feb, or do places still swipe the magentic strip and you sign?

I am in Spain and chip and pin has not arrived here yet. Having siad that if I use a UK account card I sometimes have to enter my pin and then also sign. It is however fully operational in Portugal so she will need her numbers for there certainly.
