New weekend in Oman: Fri/Sat... meh!

I don't like change!

I was just about getting used to the Thurs/Fri weekend (and singing 'Thank god it's Wednesday!') but now the govt. have moved us in line with the UAE.

I know it makes economic sense, but I'm not sure about having the 'day of rest' before the 'fun day'.

I know there are a fair few of you out there in the Emirates, do you like the Fri/Sat weekend? Or is it of no consequence at all to you?

How funny you should write this. Just whilst having dinner tonight DH and I were discussing this! We love Fri/Sat weekends. Friday we usually beach it and Saturday is more of a doing day, like swim lesson for DD, go to a mall etc. We think that being busy but having a nice day on a Saturday means we never get 'Sunday evening blues'. We often go out on a Saturday night and it feels like a Saturday night, as opposed to the night before work. Does that make sense? I doubt it as it's rather garbled!

When did that change in the UAE?

Am in the UAE but would quite happily live in Muscat!

It changed here about 5 years ago I guess. Many companies had already switched and then finally the Government did and all the schools. I think Saudi changed also not long after that.

That would explain a few things. We have been travelling to the UAE for about 12 years but didn't know that

Changed in about Sep 06 (was on mat leave with DS) - it did take a while to adjust but now quite like being able to 'flop' after the week at work before having the busier day. Also I do like having more crossover with the rest of the world, it helps workwise but also things like kids skyping cousins.

I thought KSA was still Thur-Fri though?

We have Fri / Sat weekends here, which are fine. What I don't like is when I have a parent meeting at 7:30 on a Sunday morning. It just seems wrong.

It's been at least 6 years in the UAE. The real prob is if you work with international companies. Nobody gets that Friday is an off day, then the time difference with the USA means work on Saturday, then back to work here on Sunday, no rest.
