The third house IS amazing lolly, I would be tempted to move, easy to say though hey.

The one we are looking at is tiny too 140sqm, hence having to put a second floor on. But there is no denying we get more for our money down in ten dollar tauranga!!!

We have suddenly gotten our skates on as I am planning on going back to work in the new year and definitely want to be sorted on the house front before then.

Landlord wouldn't help with any extras I think cos he wants to sell the house (land) for it to be pulled down to build three houses on. The woman who wants to buy it bought the plot over the road for circa $900k, chucked 2 houses up super fast and sold one for $1.8m and the other one is still on but will sell for more!

The silver lining is the boys have trashed the carpet and I may not lose my deposit if the house gets pulled down- and i wouldnt have to clean. But we could be homeless imminently if she buys this place - hence my panic.

Perspective though Wink.

Yep - Auckland can be hilly but that deck is amazing. That was the wildcard I showed DH today. It took a while to drag him out of it and he is seriously up for changing area after seeing that but still can't afford. It's just these auctions that put me off and 80% go to auction. The last one I liked had 8 build reports done on it so we didn't even bother and thank god as it went for 50% over CV.

lollystix · 21/07/2013 10:55

I know school change not too bad but would be kindly too and then the thing for me is a) I just love where we live and whilst we can't afford now we will be able to when I don't have to pay for FT nanny in a year or so and b) I know it sounds silly but I have made friend here and Auckland is so sprawling that if I move I fear with working FT I just won't be able to find the time to start again with friends.

If we get ousted we will have to go to another rental in the area and we have the benefits of living in a shithole so it cant get too much worst. We have low standards to start with IYKWIM. I actually thinking we could get cheaper and warmer for the price we pay but again I can't mentally face the move around work.

Oh I'm just having a moan as I do know I'm truly blessed. Please ignore my whinge. It's dreadful to say but I'm less concerned about the moves of schools from kids and kindly perspective as I know how adaptable they can be. It's the coordination of it all that makes me sign as I'd have to tee it all up to land at the same time so it's like another project to manage and I have enough of those at work. Naturally all of this sort of thing falls to me. I'm currently stressing about when I can take time off in the next 5 weeks to get to the uniform shop to buy Ds2s horrifically expensive uniform. I may have to send him in in the same stuff DS1 wears which is all a bit manky now. $18 for a pair of bloody socks and $80 for the jumper which can't go in the dryer as it will shrink yet is so weirdly thick it takes a whole week to dry in winter [Confused]. God bless Asda and their £3 trousers.

I'm clearly on one.

Is it wrong to eat your kids chuppa chups?

I hear you lolly, we would give our eye teeth to live right here in this very house we are renting, or even any house on this road, but we can't do millions either. Only curse of having landed in the perfect area in the perfect road in exactly the position we had been dreamin of for years right on the beach and park, and then not being able to afford to buy here! Lol.

DH and I even said maybe we will buy the house we are looking at, do nothing to it and rent it out to tenants. And while DD is at junior school just keep renting the house we are in as the school is literally just behind us. When she has to go off to secondary or whatever they call it, we could then move to the new Ouse as its actually closer to the school she will probably go to. Aarrrgghhh! Decisions decisions!

No Justabout it's not. And it's actually extremely altruistic the presents are not for you (I assume).

Frik- I know fold with 3 houses round the country who rent those and then use that rent to rent in Auckland. But renting to me is feeling so transient. Like I can't be bothered to sort my stuff or clean properly as its not my place.

To eat the lollies is only good parenting if I eat a fourth so I have not deprived any of my kids of one whilst another still has theirs.

I sympathise lolly. I feel for anyone who's a first time buyer in Akl at the mo, it's all gone a bit crazy.

Shame that second house was so manky downstairs as the upstairs was fine and it looked very spacious. Lol at the advert saying it needed a complete new kitchen, it looked in better condition than our kitchen! What was going on with the downstairs bit, was it dirt or damp or something to do with the cladding?

When we bought we moved about 10km from a central suburb (where I'd lived for 5 years since arriving in NZ) to the outskirts - I've kept in touch with some friends and made some good friends out here too. I know it's hard to move from a suburb that you really love though.

Sibble · 21/07/2013 21:41

wow I have alot of reading to do later to catch up in the meantime a few reasons to not drink 1/2 a bottle of chardonnay on a Sunday afternoon while the roast is cooking a) a hangover and sleep deprivation when ds2 gets sick during the night are not a good combo b) having to go to work with a hangover and try to organise sick child is not a good start to the week c) the cat does not like washing powder for breakfast d) the washing machine does not work well on dried cat food Grin

Roll on tomorrow - 'no more beersies wine for you'

vvviola · 21/07/2013 23:19

Oh dear Sibble! I prescribe coffee & a bacon sandwich to sort out the hangover part at least!

I am now going to tell you all how ultra- organised & together I am for my first day back at Uni (because it won't happen again and we will descend back into chaos by tomorrow Grin)

Children are dropped at various childcare facilities, dinner is happily cooking in the slow cooker, I've been to the gym & am now on the bus to do 2 hours library work before my lecture.

I suspect all illusions that I have it all u set control will be shattered either when our workload for the first course is given, or when I get home to burnt/raw dinner. But can I feel all organised & together for the next hour or so please Wink

vvviola · 22/07/2013 05:33

As expected, feeling of being on top of things didn't last. Didn't even last til first lecture - glance at size & detail of course book for one of my classes was enough to do it Wink

Sibble · 22/07/2013 22:04

So for those who care it's a boy and for those who don't - it's still a boy Grin as it'll be all over the news for a while.

Frikonastick · 24/07/2013 00:52

Well, after three days of meetings with builders, architects, estate agents and hours and hours of discussions with DH, I woke up this morning and thought fuck it. You know what, I don't want to compromise. At the very least, right now, I'm not ready to. I want to live right here. In this house. On this street. So I am going to. I don't care if we are renting. I just feel very strongly about staying right here. I think I'm going to listen to this internal voice.

@ sibble, I'm not even remotely interested in the royals, or babies, or any combination thereof, but still I felt all aaahhh sweet when I saw the pics in the paper :-)

I think sometimes moving to another country can come at a long series of big events. Like getting qualified renovating houses etc. A lot of us have gotten very used to moving from one task to another. So the reality of not having a project on the go can be weird. There is a element of being addicted to change in migration for some odd us which can be hard to adapt to. It's taken me a while since our last project ended.

So basically frik,I agree you need a rest

Giantpenguin - where were you when I signed up for my Masters instead of just taking a year or so of not running about like a loon Wink

I am officially no longer breastfeeding Confused As a result I have the worst PMT in the world, am shattered from the hideously early waking, and my back is destroyed from carrying clingy toddler about.

BUT... I am also wearing a real bra, have been gorging on cheese, chocolate and cakes. I haven't actually had any milk in my coffee or tea yet, but that will be the next pleasure Grin, and other than being a bit clingy (which could be due to ear infection no 2 of the winter) DD2 has reacted quite well.Grin
