Anyone changed school?

Cos their original choice didn't work out? If so how did it go? Would like to do this for DS2, but DS1 getting on okay, but want them to together ideally.

Not personally, but people in HK do this all the time, usually because their first choice suddenly becomes available, they move within HK and the commute is too far, or the younger sibling doesn't get into the school the older sibling is at and the parents don't want to deal with two schools. Then of course, at he selectove schools, some kids get 'managed out'. What is it that you're specifically worried about?

Yes. We did it here in the US with both our DCs. It was a relief to everyone - the kids and us. And we never looked back - you'd be surprised how fast they assimilate into a new environment. If its better for everyone, all you'll feel is relief, but I would say make sure before hand that you're as thorough as possible in your investigations into the new school of choice before you jump. It happens here all the time for the reasons mentioned up thread. Some children move schools 3 or 4 times whilst parents try to find the perfect school. Generally dc settle well. But I guess it depends how far the new school is from there friends. Here practically everyone is within 20 mins / 30 mins max drive, it's a pain but easily doable.

We know a few people who have and have generally been really happy. In fact most kick themselves for not doing it earlier and see huge changes in their children. I think no one enters that decision lightly so it is usually for very good reasons and once done, you are under a certain amount of pressure to see the positives in your choice!

It's difficult isn't it as not all schools suit all children and at the back of your mind there is the fear that it will be no better somewhere else. My DS is flourishing at school but my DD is just not, which is a shame as she is an amazing positive child but is just not glowing at school. Sadly, I don't see that the other options would suit her any better,

Thanks all. That's reassuring to know. Our hands are pretty tied cos of long wait lists here but something def needs to change.
