I've lived in NYC for ten years and have one DS of 19 months. This September we'll start applying for nursery schools on the UES, and while I have American friends who've gone through the process, I'd be curious to know about things from a British perspective, especially if your child went on to public school afterwards (DS is a late August birthday, so we're not even going to bother applying to private schools).
