Paris as a SAHM

So, DH might have a job opportunity in Paris. At the mo I am a SAHM with my 12 month old (we live in SE Asia) We would like to have more children soon, and I have no plans to return to work unless financially necessary. From my limited research into life in Paris I have heard that French mums go back to work soon, as a result there is not a lot in the way of playgroups and other mum and baby activities. Anyone enlighten me to the situation in Paris, perhaps within expat circles as well. Many thanks!

We are not in Paris but do a search for message Paris and you'll find the expat family support group.

There are lots and lots of expat mothers who cannot work (visa issues, childcare issues, qualification issues... you name it) in Paris. You will be lonely if you sent your DC to a local school, but not if you choose one of the schools (or nurseries) frequented by expats.

Thanks, that's good to hear. I shall seek out these nurseries etc when/if the time comes! Is there a particularly expatty area of Paris? Or is the community spread far and wide?

Sort of inevitably, expats (and dual-nationality families) congregate near the schools that serve them. If you pick a school with lots of expats, the community will be nearby. Have you looked at the Good Schools Guide International?
