Well, actually they were trying to win the corporate account from DHs and mine employers as they move people all over, all the time, so you would have thought they would make just a teeny tiny effort. Not to mention the 10 thousand odd fucking dollars it cost!!!

Aaarrrggghhhh.

I think I am all stressy and weird about it (not generally like me) because I am really needing some comfort at the moment. I just want my things :-(

WhatSheSaid · 15/04/2013 04:40

Are they delayed by MAF and Customs? All the inspections can take a while. I think I had to wait a couple of weeks when I shipped some stuff over and that was only 3 bits of furniture and a couple of small boxes.

Nope. Apparently they are just fully booked. The fuckers.

frikonastick · 15/04/2013 04:58

I realize I have used up my swear word allowance for the day Grin

thelittlestkiwi · 15/04/2013 08:06

There is an allowance?

Swear away frik. I still swear when I see our movers vans around town. And when I see the dents in my beautiful oak table. Fuckers.

frikonastick · 15/04/2013 08:32

Actual laugh out loud there littlest Grin

The guys who did our move were actually pretty ok - packed really well & fast, delivered quickly and no damage, and the guys who unpacked were really lovely. Mind you, the price makes me feel queasy even now!

(The guys who packed up the stuff we were putting into storage on the other hand... arrived 12 hours late, couldn't find the house, couldn't get the truck down the drive.... I hate to think what state our stuff will be in by the time we see it again Shock)

We've had great movers if anyone ever needs a NZ recommendation- Smooth movers were ace. Packing was about $400.

But the company that did our shipping at this end were shit. My table had come out of it wrapping and had obviously been pushed across a floor on it's end. Plus a few dents. I'm bitter cos it was the best bit of furniture we owned. We could have claimed on the insurance but we needed about 17 bits of paperwork which obviously I didn't have cos we had just done an international move.

It was 4 years ago. I really need to let this go, eh.

lollystix · 15/04/2013 10:16

I thought my movers were great - 8 weeks door to door. MAF turned up and were so unthorough in my view. Price was eye watering but cheapest and beaten down. I honestly thought it would be a 6 month disaster but it was seamless.

Seen a house tonight - potential private sale. How does one politely skirt round price? I've sent her text to say we are keen and what does she want do ball in her court really. It's all a bit embarrassing Blush

xMinerva · 15/04/2013 10:36

Our stuff was held up for a couple of weeks but got delivered Christmas Eve. Was pretty surprised with that.

I'm having a little panic. It just occurred to me that I need to start thinking at looking at schools for ds1 next year (bit sad, I still want to HE) and get enrolments in. We're in zone for Browns Bay and just out of zone for Pinehill, I want to look at both I think. Long shot but does anyone have any experience with either? Also can I put in Enrollment forms for both school or can I only choose 1? Also what happens if I decide to keep him out until 6th birthday?

I never thought I'd have to do this and it's all crept up on me all of a sudden and I don't have the first clue where to start!

frikonastick · 15/04/2013 10:37

Justa you have my utmost sympathies. I think you are dealing with it exactly the right way, but that is no remedy to the stress and upset you must be feeling. Sorry it's happening to you and your family :-(

Lolly, can we have a sneaky linky Grin I will reciprocate with a house I am trying to persuade DH on

frikonastick · 15/04/2013 10:40

Shhhhh, here we go anyway www.trademe.co.nz/property/residential-property-for-sale/auction-513804537.htm

Lolly- I have a pal who did a private negotiation and she got a little stuffed on the chattels. I know it is small potatoes but worth considering asking for a list of what they plan to include. Can you ask your solicitor if they can do anything to help? I'd find it hard too.

Frik- what construction is that property? The roof/lack of gables and potential plaster could be an issue?

frikonastick · 15/04/2013 11:00

It's a lockwood, the garage is flat roofed though, I think.

Hi girls xxx I have been in rainy, grey, but nevertheless enjoyable Cornwall (I am a sucker for a beach, me) with the offspring for a week, catching up with a load of old pals down there - social whirl. Nice to connect with everyone again. justa - fantastic email response to psych btw - glad you sent - I am gripped, and await the next instalment - GOOD LUCK! frik - love the look of the house - wouldn't have occured to me to worry about leaks etc I have to admit - I did laugh at the amount of 70s PINE on display - I see your current rental has begun to influence you in a deep and slightly disturbing way Wink. In all seriousness though - wow. If this is the sort of house that's on offer in Tauranga - I wanna live there NOW!!! But the flippin' job sitch remains rather static - GRRR. One day, hopefully Smile
DH is looking into another Middlemore job, in the meantime...fingers crossed...
Love to you all, sorry no time to respond to everyone individually, last day of the holidays today (yippee Grin - it's been three friggin' weeks and one day, NOT that I've been counting...and DH is away for a fortnight), off to (force)feed DD bulghar wheat salad with chopped mint and coriander ha ha (can you tell I got the Yotam Ottolenghi book off Amazon recently), I reckon she will get three mouthfuls in and BEG for beans on toast instead...wish me luck Smile
xxx

WhatSheSaid · 15/04/2013 20:21

xminerva. You can apply to as many schools as you want - if you end up with more than one place you just take the one you want. Obviously you will get in automatically at Browns Bay. If you are putting in an out-of-zone application check with the school when they have to be in by as with some of them it's quite a long time before - a school near us the o-o-z applications have to be in by November for the entire following year. You can phone up and go and look round as many schools as you want to to get more info/have a tour etc. often school's have info about o-o-z stuff on their websites too

meerkate certain types of houses built in the 1990s/2000s were built with substandard materials, aren't watertight and some are basically rotting. Some require an expensive reclad and some have even been demolished and a new house built instead. If you google "leaky houses new Zealand" you will find examples of the type of house to avoid.

frikonastick · 15/04/2013 20:51

Meerkate LOOOOOOLLLLLL, yes I know!!!! It's full on pine love now!!!

No, the house isn't really why I want the property, it's the location and size of the plot, we would extensively renovate/build anyway. I did check with the agent and there is a full builders report available, so I don't think it's a leaky one. All this is moot though, without DHs buy in Grin

Oh my gosh guys, the weather is crazy! I didn't sleep at all last night, the Raina no wind kept me up. I am so unused to it I kept expecting the house to blow away.

frikonastick · 15/04/2013 20:54

Dammit

Rain and wind.

Stupid iPad.

And it's still going strong now, no sign of letting up.

lollystix · 15/04/2013 21:01

Waiting in the rain for the bus. How British.

No house link Frik as not on market yet. We liked the house alot - big and 60s. We are now skirting round price. We need to put our best offer in to her solicitor apparently and she wants well over CV but what that is is anyone's guess. A day on the phone to mortgage man today.

I like the house you linked - amazing location.
