Idiots guide to setting up a blog

Can someone point me in the direction of a good (preferably free) blog site please. I'm new to the idea of blogging so am quite clueless. I've tried searching but all I get is advice on what to write about and writing style etc.

I used travelpod - free, easy, allows photos and promises that the blogs will stay there forever. :-)

I use blogger and wordpress - both are free and blogger is part of google (I think) so really easy to put photos from picasa on there.
