where in Perth?

can you lovely MNers help me out? I have been looking at a Perth map but having never been there it looks like a maze.

We need somewhere with schools around, preferably very close to the beach and max 1 hour from CBD. We are at the very beginning of a property search and would appreciate any advice.

HOw much money do you have, that will be the deciding factor.

money is flexible for the right location... I just can't tell from the map how far things are from each other, and of course I can't tell if an area is pretty or ran down..

$1000 a week buys you a very different location from $500 a week.
Do you have a preference for north or south of the river ?

I started with the school and worked backwards, didn't get it 100% right even then but it was as good a place to start as any, have you looked at myschool.com.au ?

South of the River you are closer to Margaret River.

North of the River you are closer to, um Darwin!

We prefer NOR. Probably because we have family there but we like the suburbs. Close to Swan Valley, good schools, train stright into the City.

We lived in Woodvale and Kingsley. Both have good community spirit and are 5 minutes from the beach and Whitfords shopping centre.

I'd start with schools and then pick a burb next to or just along from the train station. If you are NOR that would be the likes of Joondalup, Edgewater, Woodvale, Kingsley, Greenwood etc.

Perth is vast. Asking such a open question based on an equivalent in say Scotland would be like asking if I should live in Glasgow or Edinburgh. Perth covers a massive space.

I see greg, thank you for the information, I now understand it was a very open question. I'll do some research on schools first and take from there.
