I have been living in Sweden for 2.5 years now. Husband and 2 kids. We moved here for a better life for the kids mainly and they do have a good life. It is not very fulfilling for me or as a family though.
We have talked about moving back to the UK but are holding out for a little longer. Has anyone moved abroad then moved back ?

Hi! We live north of Gothenburg. Been here nearly 2 years now. DH is Swedish so he's v happy and feels at home. I've been through some real ups and downs here, though never enough to seriously consider uprooting the DC and moving again. Youngest DD started dagis recently and I had a bit of time to study Swedish and have subsequently found an interesting job near to home with good working hours.

What is it that makes you feel you want to leave? Do you have a good support network where you are?

I used to live in Sweden, as did DH, but before we had ds. Wallander makes me laugh as it exaggerates the grimness by a factor of at least 100, but some of the isolation does ring true.

The description of your issues sounds quite generic. Do you think they are caused by where you live, or just the changing dynamic of the family that would need to be dealt with whatever country you were in?

I live in Sweden, my DP is Swedish and I have been here for 2 years now.

I am happy here but at the same time I do miss the UK, I am sad to say I have no Swedish friends, my DP has friends and I guess I am on friendly terms with his mates girlfriends but it's not like they would call me up and ask me to go out with them.

I have made some really lovely friends from all over the world, my closest friends are Spanish, Dutch and Australian. I live in Stockholm so it is easy to meet Englsih speaking people, Where do you live OP? If you are near Stockholm the meetup website is really good, also I met some nice people at SFI, it was hard to make myself go to Swedish lessons but I am glad I did.

When I go back to the UK it does make me realise what a lovely life we have here in Sweden, I think it helps that I have embraced all things some things Swedish, I love mushroom and berry picking, I have learnt to ski, who doesn't love fika! The weather is in my opinion much better than the UK, at least it doesn't rain for weeks/months on end.

I hope you find a solution that makes you all happy, I lived in Australia for a year with the possibility of staying there for longer but it just wasn't right for me. I felt no shame, sometimes a culture/country just doesn't fit with what you want from life.
