Hello,

We are due to relocate to koje island some time within the next 6 months.

Dh is working on a major project which sees over 600 families relocating at the same time....so there must be other m'netters going too? Right? Hmm

I can't be the only one!

If not, anyone got any tips for surviving the three year contract out there? I'm an expat of 5 years, middle east and now France. I'm used to living away but it's all be very western...

Panick is starting to set in!

Try Www.gfra.net for the goeje foreign residents association- lots of info on there.... Are you sure there are 600 families relocating to the island? Accommodation is already tight. We are in Singapore but dh and his colleagues go there regularly. This is a shipyard job, right?

Thanks for the reply.
Yes it's a shipyard job, the biggest floating thingy mijiggy is being built there starting early next year.
We understand that accomadate is tight as are school places but shell have secured places for the first to arrive.
We plan to come over sooner rather than later so we can at least choose a place before the influx of people arrive, and yes I'm sure there are 600 people due to start work with dh, some will live on the main land but we are keen to stay on thr island to avoid the commute

Oh heck, that's the project we were offered but HR wouldn't let us go. Shucks. Were you in Doha by any chance? We were supposed to go to Busan and I'm very disappointed that it all fell through.

barbie1 · 29/08/2012 10:56

louisea, not in Doha but in Dubai. We are now in Paris while dh works on the paperwork side of things. Busan rings a bell, why won't they let you go? I'm desperately hoping to meet someone in the same boat (pardon the pun Grin) before we get there and I'm totally on my own Sad

Can't go in to much detail but the short story is that DH has a job in London which he started when we returned from Doha last year and the Shell HR policy won't release him until the end of the term. So, he won't be available for another 2 years at which point our kids will be at the wrong stage to move. We're at the point where it would be best to wait until they finish A levels before we up sticks again. Sad

Many of the families will be based in Busan rather than on the Island because that is where the only Secondary School is based. I understood that the staff would be transported to the site daily which was what was done in Doha.

That sucks! Dh isn't working for shell but a company that is working along side on this project, we need to live on the island for the international nursery and primary.
