Bugger,
Just returned to the car after a supermarket shop to find someone has hit the car. The front bumper will need replacing, normally this wouldn't bother me but this isn't my car!
My car is being repaired in a garage and this is a replacement.
I don't speak a work of French and have no idea if I should call the police and get a police report (not that they would understand me! Grin) or if I should just take it back to the garage on Monday as planned?

Have just moved from Dubai where every accident has to be reported or work on the car can't be carried out, guess I'm just wondering if some kind of rule applies here.

Thanks

Call the garage & ask them what they want you to do. Ask people in the supermarket to call the police for you and explain to the police on the phone what this is about.

I would take lots of photos before you move the car, especially if any pieces of the bumper are on the ground. It goes a long way into convincing the expert that the accident happened while your car was stationary.

Shit, I have moved the car Sad
Both babies were screaming due to the heat, tried to call dh but he was in a meeting and the one contact I have here in France didn't answer.

The garage speaks zero English, bugger, bugger, bugger!

Send me a PM with exact details of what happened and I will call the garage for you (I speak French)

Cotedazur, dh has just called and asked us to hold off calling garage as he wants to take a look this evening. I will write everything down and if he thinks it's as bad as I saying it is could we take you up on your very kind offer later? As long as I didn't have to call the police there and then I think we should be ok

In your place (and knowing how anal the French can be about the formalities of such things), I would call the garage & the police right away.

I'm going out now but will be checking in later this afternoon. Happy to call them at that point, if you like.
