So about Perth .......

We've had a bit of a change of heart about Sydney, I cannot face the traffic and the pace of life, i'm going to Australia to chill out !!!

So Perth it is, 4 kids and suitcases in 19 days time.

Anyone want to say hi and reassure me it'll all be fine. Wibble

I saw a whole thread about someone moving to Perth just the other day. Let me see if I can find it.

Fwiw, we've been to Perth on hols a few times (have friends there) and think it's a fantastic city. Although VERY remote. My dh would relocate there in a heartbeat.

Just read a couple of pages of that other tread - gave up after a few very neg and mostly from people who don't live here. We love it here all four of us have settled in from the very first day, our oldest has settled in really well in school. At the moment it is freezing at night but during the day it is in the low to mid 20s. We have met lots of people and have not come across any of the racism or sexisim that was mentioned on the other thread. There is lots to do with the kids mostly free. Every weekend there is something on somewhere that you can go to and especially in the summer is there all sorts of outdoor festivals and outdoor cinemas to go to not to mention Kings Park, whitemans Park and all the lovely beaches and parks.

have to say i hated perth! sorry! we all different though.

went oz travelling for a year pre child, flew into perth and cried and told my travelling friends if this was oz i was leaving, spent 24 hours there and could not leave fast enough, drove across nullabor all the way to sydney where we stayed most of the year, then emigrated there with PR in 2009.

i love sydney but realise some hate it, for me though it has everything i want in a city, great for kids, amazing night life, busy city, relaxed suburbs plus Doyles at watsons bay, the best fish and chips in world especially when you pull up to beach by wayer taxi from darling harbour.

i wouldnt go perth though if paid lol

I think you will like Perth. I did when I travelled round Australia many moons ago. It was my favourite place. I am very Envy to think you will be able to partake of the lovely beaches and Rottnest Island.

Agree with shellybr so won't repeat it.

My only moan is that is REALLY cold in the house in the winter I.e. now, and since both my husband and I work from home it's a bit of a problem. We have heating, but the electricity is expensive.

My sister and bil live in Perth after emigrating 2 years ago. They absolutely love it.

They originally wanted to go to Sydney but struggled to find work and reluctantly ended up in Perth. Now they wouldn't leave for anything and have just bought their first house.

Mosman would loe to keep in touch as we are going over in December to validate our visa and then moving for good in July 2013! My DH fancies Melbourne and I fancy Perth.... The December trip is to make a final decision - no pressure!

The MIL is coming over God help me. I just cannot manage alone with 4 kids and there is the potential for that to happen.
DH hasn't actually got a job you see so he'll be flying to Sydney to find one, if he doesn't get something straight away then he will come back to Perth, take anything at all and we will build our lives there and pack MIL off as early as possible. If he does get something good in Sydney then he can stay there until he's completed his probation period then will we join him.
That's the plan anyway.

But from what you're said she'd be no help with the kids anyway!!?? So have you told her its just a holiday for her?

I don't need her to help with them as such just to be in the house when they get home from school, that kind of thing.
I haven't told her she's having a holiday as such but she can only have a 6 month visa, I am getting a three bedroomed house, not buying her a bed and it'll be far from a holiday she'll be my bitch lol

I lived here in 2002-4 and cannot believe how the place has changed. It has ups and downs but so does everywhere and if you like the outdoors, it's hard to beat.

yah, your on, but I'll be working full time for the first time in 7 years and doing shifts for a yearSad. Life In Glasgow is so much easier and with our blistering sunny week I do wonder what am I doing going to the other side of the world.

Giggly, never fear, it is technically the last week of November right now and the weather is glorious, kids were paddling in the river on the weekend. Just choose somewhere to live where you will have a sensible commute! (Were we talking about this on another thread?)

I think we might haveConfused. I decided that we will only look within zone 1 area of the travel zone map as this will make it easier. Of course there are lots of areas that are of limits due to our budget straight away.
