If I were to send you a package of stuff from the UK what would you like to see?

I have a close friend in Aus who has been there for 2 years with her husband. She is unable to come back for quite a long time as her husband is ill and unable to travel. I think a parcel with some stuff like Cadburys, marmite etc in it would be quite nice but am struggling to think of what she might like. Any ideas?

I am on another forum where we reguarly swap stuff with people overseas, people always seem to want 'proper' tea (like yorkshire), biscuits (bourbons, custard creams), walnut whips and those stupid Percy Pig things from M&S (no idea why).

Red magazine.
I don't know if they don't have it there, but we don't have it here. I don't miss it horribly, but it's quite nice to see whats going on in it.

Really nice idea though.
Pop some Maynards wine gums in. I remember having some in Oz and they were awful. And perhaps a nice Cath Kidston tea towel or one of the new jubilee mugs. I was given a couple of them (I live abroad now) and I was chuffed to bits.

I have a friend who sends me a parcel full of the Guardian Saturday Magazines every once in a while, which makes me deliriously happy.

Shangers · 03/04/2012 11:25

definitely cadbury's fruit and nut and tea bags plus a couple of mags - you're a lovely friend!

Rosa · 03/04/2012 11:25

have a look on the british corner shop.....i adore the site and often drool over thing I cannot get. Watch out for custom regs in Oz they are strict .
In my dream box, marmite, weetabix, tea bags, foxes biscuits,mr kipling cakes, bisto, oxo or kalo cubes, walkers crisps, lime marmalade, salad cream, heinz ketchup. I am sure some of these things you can get in Oz..

BikeRunSki · 03/04/2012 11:28

My sister in France likes Easy Living, Body Shop make up, E45 cream, M and S pants, PG Tips, Walnut Whips and Marmite.

1950sHousewife · 03/04/2012 11:55

yy easy living.
Problem is, most stuff you can get in Oz now. Try and avoid anything too heavy as could be available there and then expensive as well.

Agree Bisto is fab. And agree with the sunday supplements. You can get them online but it's not the same.

Pinkiemum · 03/04/2012 12:00

Chutney and pickles, the ones you get in farmers markets and garden centres not from the supermarket. Cadburies you can get in Australia.

ripsishere · 03/04/2012 16:57

PM Thumbwitch. She is in Aus.
I know when we lived abroad I craved marmite, DH was always after PG tips and DD wanted crisps.
Australia does have marmite, but it isn't the same.

For me it would be a couple of white long sleeve Gap Lycra t-shirts!! I'm another one who would love a Red magazine!! And perhaps a Starbucks card with enough money on it for a coffee and a muffin - obviously you can get them there but it's like asking someone to have a virtual transglobal coffee with you!

AnEcumenicalMatter · 03/04/2012 18:47

My friend who lives abroad likes to get:
Chocolate & sweets such as Maltesers, Quality Street, Minstrels, Ruffle bars, Cadbury chocolate eclairs
Crisps
Tea bags
Marmalade
trashy white bread (only when visiting...obviously doesn't travel well by post)

alexpolismum · 03/04/2012 20:30

I don't know about Aus, but when anyone comes to visit me from the UK, I always ask for:

Yorkshire teabags
Bisto gravy granules
Golden syrup (to make flapjacks!)
gingernut biscuits
proper fudge
a bottle of cider

LaGrenouille · 03/04/2012 23:30

I wouldn't have thought you can send foodstuffs by post. Customs had my travel sweets off me when I landed in Sydney! This might help.

ArtVandelay · 06/04/2012 15:26

My list is -

Yorkshire Tea Bags
Bisto gravy granules
Vaccuum packed bright orange cheddar and red leicester (only works if brought on a short flight :) )
Ditto with wholemeal pitta breads and pots of supermarket hummus
Curly Wurlies
Sunday supplements - even if I wanted to shell out 8 euros for a paper I still wouldn't get the damn things here
The mad tiny local paper that has all the lawnmower theft stories, the Cattle Mart prices and pictures of toddler groups planting vegetable plots, love reading that.

My mum always brings me tons of those wierd Schwartz sachets that make casseroles and stuff. I don't know why because I actually taught her to cook so its not like I am helpless and need them! They look nice in the cupboard though, all English and mumsy :)

You can get cadburys in Oz but its not the same, so def some Cadburys Dairy Milk!
