Hi, we just moved to London from the US. We are temporarily staying in Notting Hill and will be moving to Maida Vale shortly. My question to you is where do you all shop for your household goods? diapers/nappies/wipes/toys? clothing, etc.? What are your favorite online websites to shop? Stores with free shipping would be great. :) Thanks for any tips!

Welcome to Blighty! You brought the fine weather with you. We lived in Maida Vale for years, here are my shopping tips, though we moved 7 years ago so things might be different.
Online groceries - www.ocado.com - rare to get free shipping here but it's worth it, I think.
Nearby superstore - Sainsburys Ladbroke Grove
Market - Portobello
Expensive but beautiful clothing - Westbourne Grove
Furniture - Ikea, north circular road; antique shops in Notting Hill
Malls - Westfield @ Shepherds Bush, Brent Cross on the north circular, Whiteleys @ Queensway/Bayswater
Online clothing - Boden, Next, M&S
Everything else - Amazon.co.uk

Oxford St just a skip away on the no6 or no98 bus, Ken High Street also close by - on the no 328 bus I think...

Happy shopping! Your credit card should by now be quite warm.

:)

An online shop to avoid is Pedlars....money for old rope as they say!

Starwisher · 31/03/2012 09:36

Though I would look at pedlars if you want a good laugh!

Oh wow. Maida Vale! I lived there for 8 years and only moved when I met DH. Love love love Maida Vale!

You're within walking distance of Oxford St, the 98 and 6 buses stop outside Selfridges, a fab department store.

Locally, you can find supermarkets on the Edgware Road, but Ocado is great for freshness.

Enjoy discovering the pubs!

For clothes, look at asos.com

Retail clothes shops:

Whistles
Zara
Coz
French Connection
Dune (shoes)
Office (shoes)
Kurt Geiger (shoes)

Department stores:

John Lewis
House of Fraser

Westfield is a shopping Mecca centre near you. On the Central (red) line to Shepherds Bush.

Another shopper just like me :-)

We have just moved to London too. Staying in SW London at the moment. House hunt proving difficult but hoping to find somewhere soon.

Thanks everyone! I already placed orders from ocado and john lewis. I must say, I think I will enjoy the online grocery shopping here in the UK! But it is disappointing to shop online for other items since it's harder to find free shipping and everything seems more expensive! But I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I find the right shops. Thanks for the tips!

I live in Maida vale, have done for 8 years - with DH and my DD who is now 2.5.
Join Maida vale
Mums, it's a Facebook page and also a website - treasure trove of everything local.. You'll love it here, everyone does.
Super local suggestions -
Soloman is a grocer opposite the Maida vale tube station who keeps every single product known to man...
There is also the most awesome little takeaway and eat in restaurant called street hawker, which is being refurbished
But due to open shortly..
Ask me any other questions !
