Moving to Hong Kong with an 8week baby

Im moving to HK island with my husband at the end of March with an 8 week baby.

Im feeling a little apprehensive about the move especially as i have found the support of my NCT group so helpful in the early weeks! Does anyone know of a similar support network in HK that i could join? Or where i could bump into other mums with small babies??
Thanks

There isn't an NCT here but there are some other options. Where are you going to be living?

(I shd have actually asked that on your other thread before I recommended doctors shouldn't I?)

Also, can I just check that I'm right that you're only staying 3 months. Are you going to be officially resident during that time or are you just coming in on a tourist visa?

We are going to be living in Pok Fu Lam. My husband is on a working visa, and I believe my son and I are coming out on a dependants visa. Initially it's just for 3 months, but with the option of staying longer depending on how we get on. Thanks for the info on vaccinations and the doctor recommendation.

No probs. PFL is a very child friendly area- lots of families. Actually we're probably moving there at end of April. Are you in Bel-Air per chance? If so, it probably has it's own baby groups running in the clubhouse.

I used to go to a really nice baby group in Wan Chai, but probably a bit far for you to trek just for a cuppa.

If you PM me with your email address I can friend you on FB and add you to HK Moms page, which is a useful resource for mums in HK (you can just defriend me straight afterwards if you want- I wont be offended)

Also have a look at the Sassy Mama website/ blog. They do newcomer meet ups and baby and mum groups I think. Geo Baby also good website. There is Mothercare in Central but stock
Up on your baby essentials if you can. Very expensive here in comparison to home. ESP sunscreen, calpol, suitable mozzie cream. Enjoy your stay Smile

Thank you for all the advice - really very helpful esp as I really haven't given the move much thought! I suppose I should start packing! Not sure exactlly where we will be living in PFL (again demonstrating my total lack of awareness) but Will be in touch once I know more! Off to stock up on baby essentials! X

We're in Bel Air, it is crawling in babies - often literally! And there are some baby groups/classes held in the Club facilities. I'm sure a number of the other larger complexes are the same. If its just a short stay I'm guessing you're going for temporary accommodation/short term let so once you know where that is let us know and I'm sure we can point you in the right direction.

RealLifeisforWimps - are you coming to join the enclave at BelAir or are you going to remain independent Grin

Ooh, Victoria Gardens is very familyish- lots of children, so you'll hopefully meet some other mums there. There are actually not many HK mums on MN (prob only about 10 who post). I would post on FB on HKMoms and see if you can find another PFL'er with a newborn or anyone who knows of some PFL mum and baby groups.

I have a friend with a similar aged baby (closer to 3 mo) but she lives in mid-levels. Happy to do a FB intro though.
