Anyone in Abu Dhabi?

We are due to move over early May and I am trying to decide where to live. The probem is I am getting very confused with the layout of the place and the on-island /off -island part.

I don't really mind if we are in an apt. or a villa, the latter would be nice as we have a toddler, but I think the price might hinder us.

Is Al Reef a good idea or is it really too far out? DH will be working near Abu Dhabi Mall.

Are we being realistic by looking to spend 120,000 dirhams a year on rent or is it too low? We would like at least 3 bedrooms.

And do you think there is any chance of getting 2 year old DD into a nursery a couple of mornings a week? I keep reading about very long waiting lists.

Many thanks for any help!

Head on over to the ExpatWoman boards. There is an Abu Dhabi board but you might have more luck on the Dubai one.

Thanks. The Abu Dhabi board doesn't seem to have much activity. We lived in Dubai before but I am clueless about AD.

I'm in Dubai
120 aed per year sounds very low to me ( that's off the top of my head though knowing Abu dhabi is more expensive than Dubai)

A lot of people commute btw don't discount it.. Though the endless hoardings for Hortons coffee shop are very wearing ...

( I find Abu Dhabi very dull tbh ..)

Dubizzle Might give you a clue as to rental prices as well

Ooo strike me ..there are 3 bedders for 120 In reef.

We were considering raha gardens a few years back.

I used to live there but it was nearly 9 years ago.

many people used to like to live near the school, because the traffic can be so bad - and presume it has only got worse. I Remember that there used to be different finish times for different ages and you'd end up waiting in the car for 40mins in 40 degrees c. There may be more than one school by now.

Most brits joined the British club which is right the other end of A/D - so consider what that journey would be like.

It is generally considered not a good idea to drive at all if you have been drinking, so you really don't want to be having to get taxis all the time.

Things will have changed massively since we were there, so hopefully someone will have more uptodate info.
