Maybe moving to Stockholm...

DH may have the opportunity to move to Stockholm for 4 years with work. If we go we won't have to pay for our own accomodation which is great but I was wondering about the cost of living in general? We live in Japan at the moment which is astronomically expensive in terms of grocery shopping compared to the UK and I refuse to belive that anywhere could be as bad! However, a major part of the decision to move is based on finances - childcare (soon to be 3 dcs: 4yrs, 2yrs and 4 mo at time of move - would prob have to be English -speaking or at least bi-lingual school/nursery as only a temporary move), groceries, utilities, travel (both commmute to work and holidays) etc.

Also, I would really like to get back to work once dc3 is 1yr old or so. I haven't worked since dc1 was born (2008) and before that worked in HR/recruitment in UK. Does anyone know if a part-time position in this field would be pure fantasy or what I could expect (would do anything by the way!) as an English -speaker. I speak a few other Euro languages and would do my best to learn as much Swedish as possible before the move.

I know I am asking a lot of disjointed questions but I guess i am just looking for a general overview of family life in Stockholm..!

And also is it worth the expense just to experience living there? I am very keen to raise dcs with a sense of adventure/desire to experience other cultures. This would be our 3rd overseas posting and after this one we will probably settle in UK for good.

Thanks in advance - going to head off now before any more questions come tumbling out of my mouth!

Would love to hear from anyone with experience over there!

I can only speak in terms of a recent holiday in Stockholm, but I found it to be a beautiful, inclusive, family-centric place. We were expecting food and general costs to be very high, but they were no more than London. Of all the city's regions, Sodermalm was my favourite and we definitely commented that would be where we would live were we ever to relocate.

Hopefully someone with knowledge of living and working there will come along now I've bumped this :)
