My friend and I are spending 2 days in New York soon (without children or husbands!!!!) and I'd love to hear any recommendations of places to go for lunches, cocktails or (gasp) maybe dancing?!

We are staying in Tribeca but can get cabs anywhere so if you've seen anywhere worth suggesting please do so!

try a site called urbanbaby - it's full of new yorkers who could point you in the right direction

Take a walk along the Highline - it's lovely. Also Soho has great shops - and is pretty.
Restaurants are hideously expensive IME - look at opentable.com for recommendations/reviews - you can also book them through the website.
Also, it's a great city to walk around - the subway is dirty and can be confusing, but walking it gives you a much better feel of the place.
Not sure when you are going, but so far we have had an extremely mild winter in NE USA - check the weather before you pack as it can be ridiculously cold!

Brilliant movie and tv bus tour. U get the bus at the stardust diner- singing waiters and waitresses. Great fun.

I recommend you try to go to La Esquina. It can be hard to get a table but it's very hip. Food is excellent and it has dancing.

Thanks anniewoo and alarkaspree I'll look both of those up now!
