Lots of redbacks

I was wondering if any other AUS people have found that they've had loads and loads of redbacks this year? Last year we didn't see a single one, but this year we must have had about 6 that we've found - and goodness knows how many hiding away! And that's in spite of having the house and garden sprayed this year and not last year. The little buggers seem to be all over the place (have found one on ds's bike, one on the rocking horse, and then one under the sand tray today). Am feeling very proud though - despite being scared of spiders at the best of times, I dealt with it myself and didn't call DH in a total panic - am obviously getting used to the interesting wildlife! Is it the weather that means there are lots about? Or are we just unlucky? (thinking about it,last year we had a bluetongue that was about loads - haven't seen one this year, so I wonder if thats the reason?)

Our stuff is going into the container to be shipped on Monday - any bright ideas about how we can make sure we don't have any unwelcome arachnid hitchhikers?

I haven't seen any more but the annoying cold-call pest companies that plague us seemingly everyday assure me that are more redbacks this year cos of wetter weather recently.

same amount as last year I think! thank god for Mortien! I think there are more flies this year

Maybe we've just been unlucky this year (or maybe I was just oblivious to them last year, which is quite possible!). Don't know how I'd cope without Mortien!

Where are you? We had heaps in Canberra last year and all my friends had stories about finding nests, etc. I haven't seen any in Sydney this year.

Am also in Sydney. Think we are just unlucky. Came across another one today meandering across the patio in broad daylight. A trowel handle soon put a stop to its wanderings!

We've only had one (in the house) so far, I haven't seen any outside. We've got lots of lizards in the garden so maybe that's why. We have had loads of huntsmen though, I usually see a few in the garden at night and find their discarded skins on the patio, but luckily none in the house yet.
I'll make sure DD start's checking her bike before she gets on now!

We have had lots fewer spiders this year, but we have loads of lizards too. Also leeches! ew. We're in Sydney too.

I've never had the place sprayed, how does it work? I must say though, i do Mortein barrier spray the house every couple of months and maybe that's why we don't get much inside.

Well, here is SA we have had ...... none. But last year we had a fair amount.

jjgirl · 27/01/2012 20:57

I do the barrier spray everywhere and it seems to stop them quite well.
