What would an experienced efl teacher earn there?

Short answer: it depends where you're teaching

If you're teaching in a private language school, salaries start around HK$18,000 per month. I'm not sure how much more you get for experience- probably not a lot, although they're keen on people with good degrees as it impresses the parents). Be aware that you'll usually have to work on Saturdays (2 mornings or a full day off in the week in lieu)

If you're in the public schools on the NET scheme, it's a lot better- around $40,000 per month and it's Monday to friday with school hols off

If you're a private tutor, you can do better than that BUT you can only really do this if you're here as a dependent (eg trailing spouse). Otherwise you wouldnt be able to get a visa.
