French mums-a word to the wise re. carseats

I don't know if this will be of use to anyone-you may well already know but I didn't-
I discovered yestarday that using a front facing car seat for a child under 15 months (even if over 9kgs) is going to be illegal from 01/01/2012.

Obviously this is a good thing in terms of safety, but I was on the point of buying a front facing seat for DS2 (12mo) and would have been most annoyed if some other French mum hadn't told me in the shop!

Sounds like a useful piece of information, Alicious

Actually, the real reason I am replying is to say that I had never realised that carseat is arse, with a cat wrapped around it (c-arse-at).

That sort of thing makes my day

I'm not sure than the law has come into place yet, but it is certainly planned for 2012. Often people talk about the laws before they are officially law.

I wonder how this will affect tourists?

MmeLindor. · 08/01/2012 13:32

I was going to ask about tourists as well.

Will those travelling through France have to have rear facing seats?

Theas18 · 08/01/2012 13:35

Interesting re the implications for tourists.

Maybe this will finally mean better rear facing seats available in the IK- I hope so.

OhFraktiousTree · 09/01/2012 11:32

MmeL gendarmerie FIL says yes, tourists could get stopped and fined if the baby is blatantly under age.

It's a PITA and I think has come in - DS isn't going to fit into his infant seat for much longer and we have 6 months more of him being RF so need to find an ERF seat somewhere here that will fit in my car. Or pray he fits until March and bring one back with me.
