Hi girls :-)

OP posts:
Ivuljenka · 13/11/2011 19:49

Anavel - because, I have family and little money :o)

My cousine and cousin live in Ireland - Dublin. I will like to visit them, but I am pregnant so I think it is not possible in the nearest future :O( And my cousin wants to move to German, because of the costs of living in Ireland... His girlfriend is expecting the baby too. She is a nurse, she is from Moldavie I suppose. So they are both foreigners in Ireland and it is not so easy. But the nature is marvelous! He often sends me some photos. It´s great. I would like it to see it too...

anavel3 · 13/11/2011 20:06

Ivuljenka, congrats on your pregnancy. Yes the countryside is great in Ireland, I've never been, but my husband has. The cost of living in GB is high in general, particularly in London, it is practically impossible to get a house of your own there, so most people have to rent.

OP posts:
Ivuljenka · 13/11/2011 21:09

Anavel -thanks, it wasn´t planned. And I havn´t still got used to it :o)

I know, most people rent a house. And what about different cities? Is it also so expansive? And my cousin said to me, that if a flat has for example three romms it has two bathrooms - that it is something typical? He was surprised when he saw our house - 4 big rooms with kitchen and one bathroom.

Hillly · 13/11/2011 21:46

Hallo Kveta and welcome! It is very interesting to read about living in GB. I have never been there, so it is very exotic for me :-) I think, that everybody of rodina .cz would be glad, if you join us.

anavel3 · 14/11/2011 06:03

Morning girls
Ivuljenka: how far gone are you with your pregnancy, if you dont mind me asking?
Renting in big cities is more expensive, theres no doubt about it. Most expensive is London, North London in particular, there are some very posh areas there. Have you ever heard of The Bishop's Avenue? I used to live quite near, the houses, if I can call it houses, palaces more like, one next to another, that's where realy rich people live. Most people in England like to have two bathrooms or toilet rooms in the house, it's very practical.
oh the kids are up, I have to go. See-ya later :-)

Good morning!
Anavel, I like your talking(writing) about living in London.Do you have some photos of places, where you lived there? Is it possible to put some photos here?

zabusa28 · 14/11/2011 07:56

Good morning! I would like see some photos from London too, Anavel. If it's possible.

Ivuljenka · 14/11/2011 07:59

Anavel3 - My term is on February. It was unexpected. Because we had decided not to have another child. We have daughter - she is 5 on December.

I have never heard about Bishop´s Avenue :O/

I would like to show you some photo too, it is possible here?

anavel3 · 14/11/2011 12:13

I'd love to show you some photos, but not too sure how to post it here, if its at all possible. Also is this room private or not?

OP posts:
zabusa28 · 14/11/2011 12:30

I think this room isn't private. I don't if here is something like diary in rodina.cz.

Knihomolka · 14/11/2011 13:26

English books - yes my topic precisely! I'm just reading Kathy Reis - the Bones series and the books is set in a completely different surrounding, the characters are different, just weird. I love authors like Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Jasper Fforde or Charles Stross, basically a wide variety - whatever I can get my hands onGrin
I was a beginner at the age of 18 and books helped me tremendously to build the vocab and so forth.

Knihomolka · 14/11/2011 13:29

Kveta does you husband speak Czech to the kids? Because that's the only way. Also the question is if he sees his and their future in the UK or CR. Our friends moved to Britain some 10 years ago and the kids's Czech is virtually non-existent because the parents did not want to come back (parents are Czech and British).

zabusa28 · 15/11/2011 19:27

Hi girls, where are you?

Ivuljenka · 15/11/2011 21:36

Hallo,
I have no time, I am studying for my Monday examination in English grammar :o)
My head is full of operators, auxilliaries, ellipses and irregular werbs :o) And everything is mixed in my head and I don´t know what to do :o)

anavel3 · 16/11/2011 05:46

hi girls :-)
Ivuljenka: good luck with your exam, you'll do well :-)

OP posts:
zabusa28 · 16/11/2011 06:05

Good morning!
Ivuljenka, I wish good luck with your exam too.

AidaN8 · 16/11/2011 14:25

Hi girls,
finally found you lol. Strangely, I do sometimes write in other topics, especially Secondary Education, as my eldest is about to go to Sec School next September. I never expected to find this topic here lol lol. I am going to read the whole thing now.
(Aida + 4 on rodina.cz) N8 is my postcode in London...

AidaN8 · 16/11/2011 14:38

Anavel,
shame you left! We also live in North London, we are in Crouch End and our eldest is most probably going to Fortismere Secondary School in Muswell Hill in September. We would have been neighbours!

Someone was saying they read Conan Doyle (can't remember who, sorry). I have just downloaded Sherlock Holmes onto my DD's Kindle, it is free. The Kindle software can also be downloaded into a PC, free of charge as well. Loads of classics a free to download (Pride and Prejudice etc). Just a thought.

Ivuljenka · 17/11/2011 07:29

Hallo - about Kindle :o) It is funny, because I had to read an article about Kindl and IPod for my lesson of pronaunciation :o)) last week. I don´t use this for reading, I like traditonal paper book - the spirit of book, smell and so on :o)
But I have Aghata Christie - Mystery at Styles on CD, It is fine to listen the detective story and listen the English.

zabusa28 · 17/11/2011 16:22

I don't use Kindl or IPod and I don't like reading books at PC. I like paper books too.

Hillly · 17/11/2011 18:14

Hi, I prefer reading paper books too.
Aida, I read books of Conan Doyle. He has got nice english. But only bilingual, it is quite hard for me.

zabusa28 · 17/11/2011 19:02

What are Doyle's books abou? I finished Twillight today a I'm reading New moon now. If someone likes Twilight saga so Twiligt will broadcast at Prima on Saturday. But I have rather books then movies.

zabusa28 · 17/11/2011 19:10

Sorry, in my text miss some letters

I have read about something about Conan Doyle on the internet. I think I haven't read nothing by him. I like reading books from present because I can learn English that is used now.

AidaN8 · 17/11/2011 21:34

Hi girls,
I actually like the Kindle, it is very practical. Especially for travelling, which we do a lot of. A book will always be a book of course.
I like classics, but I guess you have to have quite a high level of english. Apart from that, I just finished reading 'Call of a midwife', which was interesting (though not very high quality literature). I am interested in midwifery and would love to be a midwife. Unfortunatelly, that can never happen for me, so I am on my way to be a lawyer (a bit of a jump from being a midwife, I know lol).
And a really interesting book I read recently was the 'Battle hymn of a tiger mother' by Amy Chua (now I hope I remember it correctly, I lent the book to a friend). That is something well worth reading, in my opinion. It received very bad press in the Czech Republic (even if it hasn't been translated into czech and no-one has read it).
Ok, have to go.
PS: Conan DOyle wrote Sherlock Holmes.

zabusa28 · 18/11/2011 06:50

Hi girls!
How often are your children ill? My son was in the pre-school only three days and he is ill now again. He was five weeks home before.
