Do you read books in English? Do you have some favourite book?

anavel3 · 12/11/2011 20:41

hi again, what fairytale is she watching? My son is still up as well, hes watching Madagascar.
Yes, I read in English, actually I havent read Czech book in over 10 years :-)
I like crime books, real crime in particular. What about you?

OP posts:
zabusa28 · 12/11/2011 20:51

Wow, you're very well in English, right? I red simplified books. Now I'm reading my first original book. It's Twilight from Stephenie Meyer.

zabusa28 · 12/11/2011 20:52

But I have to use a dictionary very often.

zabusa28 · 12/11/2011 20:54

My son is awake too. He is watching Mamma mia with me.

zabusa28 · 13/11/2011 07:46

Good morning, girls Brew

anavel3 · 13/11/2011 09:32

OP posts:
zabusa28 · 13/11/2011 10:53

Thanks, I'm fain. And what about you? I'm eating lunch now. Today is very nice weather so we are going to go out after lunch.

anavel3 · 13/11/2011 15:36

hi it's very slow here, I think it's only the two of us talking. We stayed in today, my kids aren't too well, they have cold, so we play it safe and stay indoors. What you cooking for dinner?

OP posts:
zabusa28 · 13/11/2011 15:44

I have same opinion. Where are others? Let talk, girls. I cooked sirloin with potatoes. My son is healthy, luckily. He will go to pre-school tomorrow after five weeks.

Hillly · 13/11/2011 17:01

Hi girls! I am so so...makovice :o. I didn´t notice, that this thread has got already two pages. I looked only the first, and I was very very sad, that nobody wants chatting :).
I tryed to read some other topics, but it is ńot so interesting, for me, like in rodina.cz :o
Have you anywhere , on this pages, noticed some articles with chatting under it? I mean something like in rodina.cz. Maybe, it would be more easier, for me, to express to real articles than to offer advices to somebody i don´t know. In Czech, i don´t have problems with it ;)

Hillly · 13/11/2011 17:11

Zabusa, I try to read bilingual Conan Doyle. Just now I have finished the third book(Conan Doyle), but it is more and more uneasy, with two noisy children :( I ussually return to it to repeat some words(probably three times)

Kveta · 13/11/2011 18:03

hiya, I'm not sure I should be posting here, as I am 100% British, but DH is a good Moravian boy, and so DS is 1/2 Czech! (and obsessed with Krtek, piskoty, and Cmelda/Brumda!). DH REALLY misses life in CZ, although that maybe from being a student in Brno to working in London - student to work is always a shock!!

Are you all Czechs living in the UK? We are really looking for some way to enrich DS's exposure to Czech culture, as he is 2 yo, and starting to speak, but obviously mainly in english. I would love him to be bilingual and hopefully translate what my FIL is saying to me one day!

Anyway, just wanted to say 'ahoj!' and please tell me to go away if I'm posting here incorrectly!

Ivuljenka · 13/11/2011 18:13

Hallo,

and what about your English. How long have you been learning English? And do you use the language at work?

Ivuljenka · 13/11/2011 18:15

I read often English books. Yestrday I finished William Golding - Lord of the Flies. It is my favourite book. And now I read The Pearl - John Steinback. I need it for my studies to school.

anavel3 · 13/11/2011 18:17

Hi Kveta and welcome. I think we are all from Czech Republic, although I myself have been living here only one year. I have spent the last 13 years living in London, but I am Czech originally, so I have returned home :-). My older son is also bilingual, my younger son has recently started to speak, but he's been exposed to English from birth, so I am hoping he will catch up soon.

Ivuljenka · 13/11/2011 18:19

Hallo Kveta,
we are all Czech. We want to practise our English :) We often use this czech web site - www.rodina.cz but we want to use an English server to be better in English :o)
How long have you been in UK? And what do you do?

Ivuljenka · 13/11/2011 18:23

Anavel3 - I envy you - in good. I love England,English I would like to spend some time there! But I have never been there !

zabusa28 · 13/11/2011 18:25

Kveta, I live in The Czech Republic. We want write with others in English to improvement. You can chat with us.

anavel3 · 13/11/2011 18:31

Ivuljenka why don't you go? Even for short visit? To tell you the truth, it has not been the happiest 13 years of my life, life as a foreigner in England is not that easy, there is lots of prejudice, especially from English people. But London is amazing, my favourite place in the whole wide world, I didnt think Im going to miss it so much, but I do and I am hoping to return there at least for short visit, cant at the moment as children are too small and travelling with them is just a pain in the a.se. :-)))

zabusa28 · 13/11/2011 18:31

Ivuljenka, I had English in the school for four years. Now I'm studying English in language school second year. My degree is A2 and I hope it will be in the summer B1. I hope I don't write nonsense Smile

zabusa28 · 13/11/2011 18:35

I like England too and I have never been there too. We wanted to go to England this summer but we hadn't enough money. I hope we'll go to England next summer.

Kveta · 13/11/2011 18:39

ah, ok, I probably won't chat with you much then, as I am firmly living in the UK! I did live in C. Budejovice for 1 year, as a student, and really loved it there, but I found the language too difficult for me to learn, as my job will always be 100% in English (I am a scientist). DH misses czech food very very much - I have promised to cook him some svickova for christmas this year, as I refuse to cook kapr! He hates London at the moment, but I think that is because of the commuting.

My czech is very very basic, and I wish I spoke more - but I have a 2 year old, another baby on the way, and work to coccupy my mind for now, so maybe one day! anavel where did you live in London? We used to be near Ladbroke Grove, and it was lovely. Not great for a family though, so we have escaped to the suburbs now! I am sorry that you suffered prejudice here - DH has a little bit, but he ignores it mainly. My family have probably been the worst offenders, but we have educated them that Eastern Europeans are not all bad, and some are particularly lovely!

anavel3 · 13/11/2011 19:25

Kveta, it doesnt matter where you live, we all come here to chat in English, so please join us if you like. What kind of scientist are you? Science used to be my nightmare at school, so excuse me, my knowledge is very basic. I lived in North London, several places, Finchley, Hendon, Muswell Hill, Watford. Muswell Hill is a nice area, I liked it there, but its also quite pricey.

OP posts:
anavel3 · 13/11/2011 19:31

yeah commuting in London is a nightmare, but its getting better i guess now with the new cycling scheme, isnt it?
