Anyone up for a day trip from Brussels to Dover next Saturday? Trying to persuade hubby it would be a good idea.

Shock why o why would you want to come shopping in folkestone or dover, canterbury maybe, but folkestone Shock Smile

kirrinIsland · 07/11/2011 17:52

What prams said :)
Canterbury, or even Maidstone would better.

natation · 07/11/2011 18:36

Smile perhaps it's because Tesco and M&S in Dover sells exactly the same food at the same prices as Tesco and M&S Maidstone! In any case there is no Tesco in Canterbury. I can also do Sainsbury's or Asda in Folkestone. I'm coming principally for the food and perhaps a curry meal! Perhaps it's also because that's where my internet shopping might also be picked up from where we used to live. Perhaps it's so I can see some old friends. So it will be Dover / Folkestone, it's a very practical 400km return trip. Well the trip is postponed for another day now, but anyone fancy a pre-Christmas trip?

Smile perhaps its because i read shopping trip to dover folkestone, perhaps it's because you never once mentioned you used to live here, perhaps its because not once did you mention to visit friends, hope you have a nice day Smileperhaps we were only letting you know folkestone/dover is not great for shopping

scaryteacher · 08/11/2011 08:50

prams - when you live where we do, any Tesco/Sainsbury/M&S will do, as they are not available in Belgium where Natation and several others of us live. I knew what you meant Natation!

Portofino · 08/11/2011 10:46

Did the date still change, natation? There is nowt wrong at all with the Tesco's in Folkestone or Dover.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/11/2011 12:04

When I worked at NATO we used to have day coach trips to Bluewater, which incorporated a Supermarket Sweep at either Tesco or Asda on the way back. Twas brilliant, even if it did mean leaving Evere at silly o'clock in the morning.

Friends are moving house this saturday, only found out the day on monday morning, there is no way I would NOT help them out, so Dover will have to wait. I'm trying to arrange someone to take daughter to Lutins and then persuade hubby to go on Sunday instead, he might say no, he is giving up Friday afternoon to help at the swimming club, Saturday to help friends, he might say Sunday helping ME is just too much. Next weekend day off for hubby not until possibly 10th December. I HATE WEEKEND WORKING. F**K I hate everything about his job, I am not allowed to even talk about what is happening in the background right now about his job. Sorry gone off on a tangent.

Great to hear of other fans of UK supermarkets. Hooorah for the joys of Dover - and there's more to Dover than Tescos, bloody great castle, Western Heights, weird landscape of Samphire Hoe, Langdon Cliffs, walks to St Margarets, even the beach in Summer. Alas we only will have time for Tescos, maybe the Light of India, friends then back to Brussels.

I'm going next week, if there's anyone stuck in limburg desperate for something, speak now or forever hold your peas.

AlpinePony · 19/11/2011 06:09

Oh god, I did Dover Tesco yesterday morning at 6am - it's the holy grail of supermarket shopping! It's the best Tesco ever [tm] and at that time of day with no fecking customers around (except others clearly on their way to the ferry Wink) it's bliss! Grin

No buggers hanging around the clothes section getting under you feet either.

Anyone want to go back this afternoon? I love it there.

Longtime · 19/11/2011 10:10

You're keen Alpine! So you're out in Limburg? Dutch or Belgian?

AlpinePony · 19/11/2011 11:00

Dutch, although the border is only 5 miles or so.

Portofino · 20/11/2011 10:23

Dover Tesco! Envy That used to be my local one....

natation · 20/11/2011 11:46

Possible dates for a Dover Tescos trip, possibly M&S too.

tues 6 december (will not be popular with children as it's St Nicolas)
wed 7 december
sat 17 december (might not be possible if swim meet still unconfirmed)

Leaving Brussels before 7am, return when the car is full, I guess at the latest 8pm.
Travel would be with Eurotunnel, free if hubby drives.
Fuel costs shared, approx 35 euro.
