Morning all :)

It's a beautiful sunny day here in Western Australia. I'm looking at the pink and grey gallahs sitting in the garden and the white butterflies fluttering around the spring flowers in my MILs garden. It's lovely and I'm dreading going back to Beijing where the pollution index, right now, is 301 which means children shouldn't leave the house. Hmm can someone remind me why I'm going back again?

Anyway, where are you, how's the weather and what are you doing today?

Hi, neighbor! :)

lambandmintsauce · 21/10/2011 16:33

Good morning from Panama. It's 30 degrees here (never changes) and we are in the middle of rainy season. Went to play tennis earlier but got rained off so I messed about in the gym and convinced myself it was a workout!

We've spent all week working on DH's CV and cover letter for an ideal job for him in Abu Dhabi. We really, really, really want to move back to the ME so please cross your fingers for us - he is sending it today .

Good evening from Mumbai, India where it's hot, but one fan hot not AC hot.

We finished school today for the Diwali break, so off to Goa for a few days after we've been to an OTT party at a five star hotel.

I've just signed a new contract so another 3.5 years here.

HazleNutt · 21/10/2011 20:07

mm I'd love to live in Singapore for a couple of years. Maybe..

In Alsace, France. Love it here, even though it's getting a bit chilly now. But it's still beautiful and the first time in my life I'm actually enjoying the seasons changing.

headfairy · 21/10/2011 20:15

Oh my word, I love threads like these. Bloody brillant reading about everyone's amazing exotic locations. I'm living vicariously through you you know as I'm stuck in boring old West London.

argghh · 21/10/2011 20:25

Just to second what headfairy thread, great to hear from the all of you out in the world from my suburbun life in deepest darkest Berkshire in the UK.

FearfulYank · 21/10/2011 21:32

But headfairy and arggh that sounds terribly interesting to me...here in a little farming town, pretty much smack dab in the middle of North America. :)

Eralc · 21/10/2011 21:40

We're in Sydney and hoping for another sunny day like yesterday! We're only here for another 5 months (and having very mixed feelings about going back to the UK at the moment). Today I would like to be going to the beach, but instead I'm going to be cleaning the house ready for the inlaws visit next week.

bunnygirl80 · 21/10/2011 23:07

We were only meant to be in Sydney for 2yrs, but that's been and gone, so it looks like we're here for the long term. We've got another 2yrs left on our visa, but we'll apply for PR at some point I expect. It's a great place for DS to grow up, and at the moment we can't imagine moving back to the UK

eralc we've got the inlaws arriving in just over 2wks, so I'll be going into house cleaning mode soon as well Smile

Thzumbazombiewitch · 21/10/2011 23:29

I wish my Dad or family could come and visit but can't see it ever happening; and my MIL is only 15 mins away so doesn't need to come and stay unless we're out overnight and she stays with DS. However, this was rather the point of us being here, where we are - to be close enough to her that we didn't only see her 3 or 4 times a year.

TheBrideofFrankenstein · 22/10/2011 00:42

In terms of duration, probably in HK another 3-5 years. DS due to start school in 2015, so then we'll have to give it some serious thought as there's no point in him doing a year and then going through the whole admissions nightmare somewhere else. Another consideration is that in

Shanghaidiva · 22/10/2011 01:16

I am in Nanjing, China and the weather is fab at the moment - clear blue sky and mid 20s.

echt · 22/10/2011 05:11

Hello from Melbourne. Peeing down right now but good for the garden (the weather is peeing, not me, though I send DH to piss on the lemon tree in the time-honoured fashion).

DD went for her first spring day on the beach this week when it got to 28. She was thrilled, and showed me her tan lines. And got a SPF-related bollocking.:o

pointyearedpixie · 22/10/2011 05:19

We came out here unmarried and child-free for 18 months to 2 years, still here 5 years on with number 2 on the way...

TheBrideofFrankenstein know what you mean re. schools, though it seems to be a depressing prospect everywhere.....

C0smos · 22/10/2011 06:14

Johannesburg, it's another sunny day here about 26, we skip Spring and go straight to summer. It will be nice weather now until about April.
I have a feeling I'm here permanently, other half is a Saffer. My parents arrive next week for a holiday, they are bringing emergency supplies from Amazon and we're hitting the coast for a week, can't wait!

LAbaby · 22/10/2011 06:44

Santa Monica. California here. It's 10.40pm and I'm trying to convince a very energetic four-month old that it is sleepy time. It's quite chilly with the sea mist rolling in and the windows open - reminds me of autumn days in Norfolk, at my grandparents.

TheBrideofFrankenstein · 22/10/2011 06:46

Pointy I know. I gather Singapore is even harder, and I remember Dubai also being a real pain.

I put DS's name down at birth, and at 2 of the 3 schools he prob still wont get in as nationals, siblings and debenture holders will get priority.

pointyearedpixie · 22/10/2011 07:39

Plus some take a nice "admin fee" just for the privilege of applying (and not even being accepted!)

Thzumbazombiewitch · 22/10/2011 07:53

echt - what is this time-honoured pissing on the lemon tree thingy? Is it meant to be good for the lemon tree or is it a joke? Cos if it's meant to be good for the lemon tree I'll send DH out to piss on ours!

SeoraeMaeul · 22/10/2011 11:50

pointyearedpixie and The BrideofFrankenstein - totally agree on schools, arrving in HK in September with a 5 year old and a 3year old made it a baptism of fire! But to be honest, my recollection of London was that it was almost as bad.

PetiteRaleuse · 22/10/2011 12:08

In France, on the border with Germany and Luxembourg. I don't know how long we'll stay in this area but we will not be moving to the UK at any time ever soon. Hopefully won't be moving back to Paris either.

It's cold - was minus 5 when I woke up this morning which is weird as it was 30 degrees just a couple of weeks ago. It's 2 degrees now.

Another one in the US here - a bit further south though in Kentucky. Weather here has been schizophrenic last few days - but today was GORGEOUS and I had planned to spend most of it on the porch swing with a book and a cat - as it happened I stayed late at work, got home to take a short nap and woke up 8 hours later when it was dark and the sun had hidden away Sad
