British Passport:place of issue & Ryan Air Flight

Hello, I was just about to enter my passport details for a Ryan Air flight tomorrow. Is asks for 'place of issue'. I live in France, the passport was processed through Paris and on the 'authority' part on the passport it says FCO. Do I put down UK as it is a UK passport or do I put down France as that is where I sent my papers to? Nowadays it is more simple as all passport applications are processed in the UK, so I can put that down for ds2 but for the rest of us we have FCO. what do you do? My mind has gone blank. Thanks.

Thanks Ajandjjmum. That is what I would say and am sure I have done that for Easyjet flights but Dh is adamant that it is the uk. One cannot write FCO though as it is a pop down one size fits all answer so it would be France.

Anything to complicate things - that's Ryanair for you!!!
I'd put France then, and if it's in the drop down, you've got to assume it's an acceptable answer?

Technically aren't all FCO locations UK? I always put UK for place of issue and have not had that questioned before. I've been on FCO issued passport for at least 6 years now and have never been questioned on it. I travel a fair bit too on all sorts of carriers, Easyjet included.

Um, I did this recently and am pretty sure that I put UK. There was nothing in the passport to indicate it was issued in France - though it was.....

One cannot actually speak to the passport office anymore! You have to pay to speak to someone from careline based somewhere in Scotland. They charge you by the minute! I thought I'd check here first.

Stewie I have just looked at it and, there isn't a specific question relating to this and in 24hrs I'll be flying. I'll put France as it say on the site UK passports apply in Uk elsewhere Foreign Commission Office and that must have been here in France.

You need to put the place where it was issued, so if issued by the British Consulate/Embassy in a non-UK country, put that country

eg DS's British passport was issued by the FCO in Hong Kong, so I'd put Hong Kong as place of issue

My British passport is issued by the consulate in Düsseldorf, so I always put down either Düsseldorf or Germany as place of issue. Never had a problem with that.

Well, I initially put down France then saw that on the passport there is a code of issuing state which is GBR so changed it to UK! Oh well it's done now. Thanks everyone for their help. I wouldn't normally be bothered but think I'm a bit stressed at flying Ryan Air and all the horror stories one hears. Never normally think twice with Easyjet.

My DH's French passport is issued in Netherlands, we put it down and got a bollocking from British Airways who stated that it must say France.

I just put what it says in my passport and that is FCO.....never had a problem.
