Los Angeles???

Anyone live in or moved to LA? DH is being flown over for an intervew next week, they're paying for me too so I can check it out. He'll be based in Santa Monica, which seems uber expensive

I know NOTHING about LA, we live in London and travel a fair bit so not scared of a new big city. In theory I can't work but I'm a theatre director so actually might qualify for the occasional job on HB1 form specially for artists.

We'd be taking over our 3yr old and new baby if we moved.....any stories/experience AT ALL gratefully received

OMG I would absolutely drop everything and move to Santa Monica tomorrow if I could. It's gorgeous, an amazingly clean city, everyone is so friendly. DH has done several work-related courses there (weeks at a time so not a weekend thing) and DS and I have gone and stayed with him a few times. We love it there. It's a very eco-friendly city, great bus service and it seems as if everyone walks or rides a bike or takes the bus. There are still lots of cars but fewer than we're used to seeing. It doesn't seem to be terribly expensive to me, cost of living in the States is less than where we live (West Coast of Canada). And you're right by the beach... aaahhhhhh... seriously, we would move tomorrow.

We moved to Santa Monica from london in October, and our baby boy was born here in June. I am just on my way out and have my mum visiting at the moment, but can prob answer any questions you have as it all happened so recently for me! It's been hard being so far from home while pregnant - we didn't know I was expecting when I moved - but we love it here. Looks like I won't be able to go on the recce now because my parents are away and DH won't ask his dad and his girlfriend to have DS for a few days, so he'll have to do all the thinking on his own (serve him right for being a wuss and not asking)
