Can you take a TV and DVD player from NZ to UK?

Hi, following on from my other electrical thread :)

I am imagining that a New Zealand TV and DVD player won't work in the UK because they are a bit funny. Do you know?

We took ours back from Australia and it all worked fine so maybe it's the same.

We brought our Samsung TV to NZ. Can't recall it's model number off hand, but it's a flat screen HD ready thing. We had been told it wouldn't work and had intended to use it just for DS to watch DVD's. However, we had a go at tuning it in to the terrestrial channels and it works! If you are going to subsribe to Sky in NZ bring your TV as with a sky box you will not be using the terrestrial signal, but relying on your Sky box. DVD player works fine too, but you will need to convert it to all regions if you want to use NZ DVD's on it.

If you want to get a new TV anyway, wait until you get here as TV's cost the same in dollars here as they do in pounds in the UK.

By the way NZ TV is pretty grim so you should really seriously consider a basic Sky package once you get out here.

UK tv wont work in NZ so it will depend on Your model as to whether you can change the settings. You might need to speak to the manufacturer to get the right codes

As mentioned below, the tv will work through sky package.

DVD will depend on model and whether it will play multi-region

However, you have given me the idea to go back to the shop and tell them the models and they may be able to help.

Don't know about the tv but the DVD player should be fine; and if you have lots of NZ DVDs I would strongly recommend you take it!

I have a UK DVD player here in Australia - I also have an Australian DVD player. Some of our DVDs play on both, some are region-specific so we have it covered. It was cheaper than replacing about 50 DVDs! Most modern TVs will have enough ports on the back to allow you to plug in more than one DVD player and several other things as well so it shouldn't be an issue.

Just a quick point. We have just moved back to Oz from the Uk. We unlocked our british dvd player with the help of 'martin Lewis' website. It took 30 secs to do and is now a multi region player.
You just put dvd in the search box on the website and then go to the free unlocking link. Put the model number in for your player and it will tell you how to do it.
Ours worked and it's amazing!
