Hi everyone, I just joined today! I'm slightly overwhelmed by the size of Mumsnet!

I am an expat in Canada. I've been here on and off for 30+ years. Yikes! It doesn't feel like home. We are trying to move back to the UK, hopefully within the next year or so.

I thought I would join Mumsnet now and maybe make some new friends, even just online ones, before the move.

I have 4 children, ages 9, 7, 5 and 4. No doubt I will have some questions about schools, etc, in the coming months.

Looking forward to chatting with everyone!

Hi There! Welcome to Mumsnet. Whereabouts in Canada are you? We've only been here (BC Rockies) for 5.5yrs but have no homesickness at all. I obviously do miss family and friends, but much prefer our life in Canada to the UK and so it's just the people I miss, not the place. Where would you plan to move back to? Have you visited the UK many times since you moved away? [nosy emoticon] Grin

Thanks for the welcomes!
I'm in Southern Ontario too - Georgian Triangle. We used to live in London, ON.
I do wonder if I am destined to be 'homeless' forever! I can't seem to settle. We just moved from London, ON last year, we were there for 12 years. Before that it was Vancouver, and before that it was the UK. I haven't been back to the UK in 9 years now, which makes me nervous about going back. I would love if we could go for a holiday before making a big decision but there isn't enough money for that.
I don't think I have friends in the UK anymore! And the family there is not close. I just can't seem to feel like I fit in here. Like I can't relate to the people at all. DH's job here has very unsociable hours but in the UK there are more opportunities for M-F 9-5 type jobs, which would change our lifestyle instantly.
We haven't got an area in mind to move back to since there isn't really any9one in any particular place. DH is looking for a job right now, and I guess we'll see what happens!
