Hello!
Nice to hear from you alypaly. My english might be on the same, short level as your german. But we already found something in common and thats very good. You did very well and I will try very hard to keep up with you. Thanks for all the information about good places to live in Manchester. I will check them out later on the day with google map. How long have you been living in Manchester? How are the People and Society there? To you have any experience with primary schools? Your kids are much older, so you past all this stages already. How is the commuting distance to handle every morning ?
Would you recommend not living directly in Manchester? Hope you are having a nice weekend and i might hearing from you agin. Many Thanks for making the first step to all this questions .

your English is much much better than my German. Mine is from my school days many many years ago.
I have lived in south Manchester all my life.( I was a very young 55 on Thursday so I must like the area to stay here.
I live 10 minutes drive down the A34 to Didsbury.
I am starting a new job just down the road from Fog Lane in April. At 8am in the morning it takes 30 minutes but any other time is 10minutes.

Do you want private or state schools. Both my boys went to private schools which i can highly recommend but there are some lovely schools around the area. Personally i wouldnt live to close to your place of work, but it depends what you like and how much you can spend on your property. Excellent private schools are Cheadle Hulme school which starts at 5 years old. Hulme Hall school.Ladybarn private school in Cheadle is from 3 yrs. GreenBank private school is from 6months to 11 years and is a fantastic school. Both my boys went there. Bruntwood school is a state school and is a good one. Bramhall high and Poynton High are also excellent state schools.

There is lots to do around south Manchester and it is only a short train journey to Mancheter . It costs £3.00. Plenty of night life in Manchester.

Didsbury has a cinema, bowling alley, many good restaurants and there are good sports centres (David Lloyd in Cheadle Hulme).Traford park is close and the Chill Factore is an indoor ski centre close by.
Bramhall is quite expensive as is Alderley edge and Wilmslow, but Cheadle,Cheadle Hulme,Woodford,Poynton,Gatley are less expensive.

If you have young children I would recommend living a few miles south of Fog lane.It is what i would call more of a city area.I prefer a bit more greenery and space. Some areas are not so good. Where I am going to work has a locked car park which might give you some help. But it is a friendly county.

Every area will always have its own problems so it depends what you are used to.

These areas are only 10 minutes to Manchester airport which is useful.
And Alderley Edge,Dunham Massey has some beautiful areas for walking and very countrified.

wondered if the info had been helpful?

Hallo Apfelstrudel!

Hello Alypaly !

Sorry for my late respond. I was very busy this week. Of course all your information is very helpful for us. We definitely will live a bit greenery and having the option for a nice walk with the kids. The kids are 8 and 5 Years so they still spend lots of time outside. They are both settled in a catholic primary school, and I think we can not afford any private education. So all the information about schools are very very helpful and important to us. Our timetable will bring us mid of may to Manchester for the first look around and I will trust your information and start looking moor at the south part of Manchester. Gatley, Cheadley, Poynton and so on. Thank you so much for all your help. I hope you had a good start of with your new job. Wish you a nice weekend, with lots of sunshine.
