Anyone in Paris tell me why there were so many soldiers patrolling a couple of weeks ago?

There, got the whole question in the subject line. We went two weeks ago and did the normal touristy things, tower, louvre, notre dame etc. We were astonished at the number of soldiers (I think) they were walking around with guns.
It was fashion week, but I doubt that they were there to protect Kate Moss and her fags.

Perhaps because a month or two ago there was a terrorist scare- I think they discovered some plot to send suicide bombers to some European cities?

Maybe because of everything going on in Tunisia etc?? Just a wild guess

There is a higher armed presence and a more visible 'military' feel in Paris. I used to walk past the Eiffel Tower most days and never saw fewer than 2 3 person armed patrols.

They were probably Air Force - they usually get landed with soldiery policing duties.

Thanks for that. Me and DH thought it probably was due to the unrest in the ME. I saw on the news that the Eiffel tower was evacuated due to a bomb threat.
