Volunteer work in France

I am still unemployed (at least I'm not alone!) :( I often see people in the UK being advised to do volunteer work as a way of keeping skills updated / getting out of the house etc.

Has anyone ever done this is France? Would it be a plus on my CV, or not? Is it more something for retired people to do?

I have tried contacting the Red Cross but they asked me if I was retired, and when I said I wasn't (I am 28 Grin ) they said I wasn't the "profil" (hate that word!) that they were looking for.

I will try Secours Catholique & Banque Alimentaire, but does anyone have any ideas of other charities which might be worth contacting for short term voluntary work?

Forgot to say that I am an accountant with experience of admin type jobs, and also did quite a lot of shop work as a student.

Don't know how beneficial it is but I did some before going back to very part-time paid work and it kept my brain in gear which certainly helped. Somewhere there's a website where Loi 1901 associations can list work they have ongoing...will see if I can dig out the address. Might be a good way of digging out work in your area.
