We will be relocating from the Middle East to New York (Manhattan?) at the end of next month. My DH's visa will hopefully be processed before we go, but they are unsure if mine will be.

Does anyone know is it important I have my visa before we get there? Do I need to have it for anything essential?

I have a British passport so am permitted to stay for 90 days on arrival I think (I applied for the online multi-entry thing which lasts 2 years I understand).

I have a baby and a 3 year old, we are hoping the 3 year old will start nursery in January.

This site is enormous, but may have some answers for you. I know that our VISAs were processed and completed in the UK before we left (for Washington DC) and there are sometimes complications if you move location in the midst of the VISA process - but you should be able to find someone who can advise you on that, at least by email communication via this site.

DH and I both moved here with visas already issued. USCIS can move things along if they need to. Make sure your kids have visas too.
